I like RF, I really do. Math, though, is just like a pencil - it’s a tool. It has nothing to do with consciousness - which is the real key. Physics, on the other hand, is like a pencil. Oh Norm, the battle goes on and I admire your want to fight it. I would even enjoy you whopping me at chess. I think one should pair creativity with math. Yeah. How ‘bout Picasso and Einstein? They meet at the Lapin Agile.
Feynman is great. I eat it up every time.
Totally guileless. A joy to watch.
Tommi, Feynman's just saying that the language of mathematics is, like natural language itself, a tool you'll need if you want to come by a marginally greater understanding of the world.

Mathematics is more than just a tool -- it's something very fundamental. And what do you actually mean by 'consciousness is the real key'?
I hate it when people arty-farty about 'consciousness' and 'meaning' and 'truth', thinking that they're uttering something profound, but without actually saying anything concrete.

Mathematics is just a language
--- a formal language if I might add. It is precise but hence actually weaker than our spoken languages which are vague and are difficult to characterize (natural language processing for eg is an extremely difficult problem). When it comes to consciousness, well what can I say --- well actually there is nothing I can say because I (and probably all of us) understand very little of it. There is no clarity just a fuzzy feeling. And be a problem simple or complex in order to claim we understand it clarity is a must.
