Afghan faces execution for becoming Christian
Afghanistan's constitution is based on Shariah law, which is interpreted by many Muslims to require that any Muslim who rejects Islam be sentenced to death, said Ahmad Fahim Hakim, deputy chairman of the state-sponsored Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission.Mad Kane with some Russ Feingold Verse.
''He would have been forgiven if he changed back. But he said he was a Christian and would always remain one,'' Wasi said. ''We are Muslims and becoming a Christian is against our laws. He must get the death penalty.''
If this isn't funny. . .

I wish it was illegal to be a Christian in my country too...
This quote from the "On why poor countries are poor" article really stood out to me:
But self-interested and ambitious people are in positions of power, great and small, all over the world. In many places, they are restrained by the law, the press, and democratic opposition. Cameroon’s tragedy is that there is nothing to hold self-interest in check.
The tragedy in our country is that there is almost nothing to keep the Republicans in check. Their victory is darned near complete: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches not to mention most state governments are firmly in Republican hands, and I predict it will get worse in '06.
You liberals and democrats, pretty please get your crap together and get some people elected. America needs a vigorous opposition. Though it pains me, I'll even vote for some of them (but not Hillary please).
(but not Hillary please).
I agree. Please not Hillary. She has no convictions. Her stance on flag burning is unconstitutional and is a transparent ploy to appeal to more conservative voters. She was a supporter of the plight of the Palestinians before she ran for senator of NY and then conveniently changed her position. I don't have any real confindence what it is exactly that she stands for.
As for what is happening in Afghanistan, I am curious to see if the people who are saying that Islam is not the radical, twisted religion that it is made out to be, will speak out loudly against the persecution of those who choose a different religion other than Islam.
