David Cross is awesome.

that was great! i went to school with the veggie co-op stew-making people; still miss them sometimes. not too much.

That was great and really worked. It's hard sometimes with his show when he has the real political people because they seem somewhat flummoxed. This worked perfectly and it was nice to see everyone getting made fun of.
And, I agree - David Cross is awesome and hilarious.

Careful Colberrrr.
Having people on the show who are funnier than you is great for us, but there are only so many slots for funny. Even at Comedy Central.
Get that man (Cross) his own political comedy show.

Pure Gold Norm, good job getting this one up!

Loved it. The Co-op where Russ is a stockboy really exists in Madison Wisconsin. I remember it well from when I was a student there several years ago.

awesome stuff from colbert...only if we had this great comedy in Singapore......

I love David Cross. I guess he has more time on his hands to spend on the Colbert Report because FOX (damn them!) cancelled Arrested Development.

Thanks, Norm. That was great. The one good thing about the Bush era is that it's a golden age for comedy.

Just want to congratulate the Republicans on electing a real boner (Boehner) as their #1 Guy.
Congrats John Boehner!!!
And yeah, Comedy Central should get a good show on tv, instead of Drawn Together. South Park followed by an edgier Arrested Development. Followed by the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. Must see TV? I think so, at least for a certain demographic.

Norm:
I realize this is off-topic, but I don't know where else to ask it... Why haven't you been covering the Muslim reaction to the Muhammed cartoons (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4673908.stm)? Given that you seem sympathetic to Dawkins's stance on religion as a whole, I'm surprised you haven't mentioned it -- it's such a clear example of the kind of madness that religion can induce. I mean, I'm basically a moderate about these kinds of things, but I find the situation absolutely terrifying.

I don't think I get/understand the merit in Colberts style of humor. I understand he is trying to be artificially pretentious and conceited. But I don't see how it is funny? Maybe I am just foreign. Bring back John Stewart!
Posted by: Jotham | February 2, 2006 02:18 PM
I don't think the guy above me (Jotham) is worldly enough to understand the humour. Bring back John (sic) Stewart? Turn your tv on 30 minutes earlier. He's still there. Although he goes by "Jon."
Posted by: Jotham is Retarded | February 2, 2006 03:41 PM
Or maybe the fact that since he is not American (as he stated) he is not familiar enough with the people Colbert is parodying. Im not a Yank and it took me some time to get up to speed with Colbert but that doesnt mean I wasn't world enough.
Oh and in regards to 'turning on the TV 30 minutes earlier', you do realise that thses shows dont get broadcast around the world so this site is the only way we can get a fix of it. Well, this site or comedy central's site.

Great clip, Norm. Is there any chance of getting the Word from that episode? I personally thought it was one of their best done sections.

David Cross has a soul patch going on...makes me worried that Arrested Development is done for :(
Posted by: Wamzlee | February 2, 2006 10:14 PM
Yeah David Cross is funny, but "Arrested Development" sucked hard. Lame, neverending voice overs and really, really obvious comedy ... how is that 'innovative'?
I'm glad to see the show going away because now hopefully Cross will spend more time doing his own stuff.

Wow...you have to be the first person I have ever met who thought "Arrested Development" sucked hard. First of all, there is a lot of subtle humor that you may/may not get if you don't watch the show sequentially. Second, even if there is really, really obvious comedy, I'm still rolling on the floor in tears at least a couple of times per episode. I am guessing that the innovative label comes from the fact that the show is a documentary (hence the voice over).

At first, I though maybe this Lieber was an actual person, but after Googling it (yes, googling) and finding out he's just a fictional character I don't see what point is being made here? If any? If there isn't one then sure I can see the humour in it.
But if it's a way of trying to point out that this "type of people" has no knowledge other than what they are proping for it just has no ground at all.
Posted by: pix | February 3, 2006 05:12 AM
i think the point is just that people are rediculous (without any political points here), colbert is just barely more rediculous than oreilly, to the extent that if you didnt realize the joke you might really think he was that conservative (ie oreilly has raised the bar quite high for what passes as absurd).
humour probably shouldnt be explained though
Posted by: anon | February 3, 2006 06:03 AM
Colbert is the perfect straight man. I don't know how he keeps a straight face, but he's good. Works best like here, when he sets up the joke for another funny guy.

The Colbert Rapport hit its stride on this one! More fake guests and fewer real guests!

OMG, hilarious stuff. "Raise Your Voice by Raising Your Hand: A Non-confrontational Dissenter's Guide to Fighting Back, Politely". Geez, as one of the first commenters noted, this regime is great for comedy. You really can't parody them...they are their own parody. And Colbert's shifting criticisms of the liberal straw man guest were hilarious. I don't have cable so I soooooooo appreciate this site. Thanks Norman. And I've never heard anyone say AD sucked. Wow.

This was HI-larious! For those who haven't seen "Outfoxed" or the O'Reilly Factor post World Trade Center plane-bombing, this was a spoof on the interview of the young man who lost his father on 9/11. The guy - an advocate for non-violent reaction to the attacks - was ready for O'Reilly, who really let his frustration get the better of him during the "debate."
Posted by: not outfoxed | February 4, 2006 10:18 PM
That WAS hilarious. It's the first time I've actually 'gotten' Colbert's schtick. Usually I can't watch his show. Great parody.
