owned. i love it.

I used to think that guy was kind of square before... looks like I was wrong :D

Absolutely brilliant!

I haven't the opportunity to watch a lot of tv with my work schedule, but I'm definitely going to start tuning in on MSNBC more often.

You ROCK Norm! This is a great clip.

user-pic

Thanks so much for posting this. Love your site. More of this sort of thing, please. MSNBC doesn't seem to really know what they've with Olberman. They don't put up nearly enough of his video, and never this kind of segment. We'll leave that up to you.

user-pic

Olbermann is the man. He has turned his career from being a great anchor on ESPN's SportsCenter in its early days, to being a leading newsroom reporter on MSNBC. He doesn't hold anything back, and raises controversial issues from both sides of the spectrum. He just might be the last newsman that is fighting for America.

O'Reilly is that wart on your ass that you get excised as soon as it appears, but it returns larger and more annoying each time.

What a tool.

user-pic

that's some nasty shit right there.

i'm glad i don't have a tv.

I haven't laughed like that since "Aristocrats".

Yes, since Olbermann is almost the only non-conservative leading a show, no wonder O'Reilly wants to put an end to his comments. We are supposed to be a fascist state after all with only one point of view, and you can't even jest about others.

What's going to be funny is when O'Reilly realizes the Stephen Colbert show demonstrates what a complete @ss he is. Right now he probably thinks he's a pretty cool guy.

owned.

omg. could.not.stop.laughing. particularly at the possibly intentionally mediocre o'reilly-i'm-trying-to-be-manly-because-i-haven't-gotten-any-if-you-don't-include-falafel-recently-not-to-mention-if-i-spoke-with-a-meek-voice-people-would-realize-im-just-a-bully voice.

wow, bumper net video day-the daily show clip hilarious too...thanks!

I've been moderately impressed by Olbermann in previous clips, but I have to say that was seriously brilliant.

Ohh, so I'm curious, does this guy [O'Reilly] reply to these criticisms such as this towards him? I don't watch his show, so I'm wondering.

That...was...AWSOME. I love it when people point out what an intense hypocrite O'Reilly is and his warping of facts. Great to see that the "liberal media" might actually have a liberal in it now (or at least someone that hates O'Reilly).

I watch Olbermann nightly. When he is taking the night off and another anchor is subbing for him? I watch reruns of The Daily Show on Comedy Central. Almost as entertaining.

Lol... it was awesome when he waved to Bill in the camera... Or he said ' Bill made a fuuuuuhhhnnnyyyy :) :) :) ".

Awesome

Haha the best is O'Reilly saying "Woodress." He can't even get the facts right on a simple story or respect an injured colleague by getting his name right.

BEST. RANT. EVER. Screw Dennis Miller. Olbermann is possibly the funniest real news anchor (not to piss on the Daily Show, they're just as good, just that they ARE on Comedy Central, so humor is part of the point) EVER! I always found him funny, and even when he had to straight-lace it at times before, that smirk always found a way. If you could find the clip of him unloading after Katrina hit New Orleans re: FEMA (unless you have it here somewhere, I haven't looked), that would be awesome, since that was when a LOT of people suddenly found out just how sharp Olbermann is when he's got his blood going LOL

Yeah, you do have the Katrina rant (http://onegoodmove.org/1gm/1gmarchive/2005_09.html), almost peed myself, and the good part was I just woke up, so I'd be changing my clothes soon anyway......L8r.

Thank God for Keith Olbermann! In a sea of Hannity, Limbaugh, Matthews, Hume, etc etc he's about the only one out there with a progressive point of view on cable news AND he's funny, which is a nice bonus! Someone out there needs to be calling out O'Reilly on his BS and Keith seems to love to do it.

HAHAHAHAHA jesus, do I hate bill o'reilly. he represents everything that stinks in the USA, and everything why it is such a hated country around the world. It's seeing people like this olbermann (whom I'd never heard about, I'm from brazil) kicking the crap out of him that brings joy and warmth to my heart.

MSNBC SUCKS!!!

Great clip!!! O'Reilly is a pompus blowhard. I don't know if Olbermann does this on a regular basis but he should. My only other thought is that Jon Stewart has been doing this on Daily Show for years. The sad/funny part is that most college kids watch the Daily Show before all other new outlets.

I wish every anchor could be like Mr. Olbermann.

Wow who would've thought honesty, and humour could make so much sense.

Unfortunately, Keith, no one was watching your fourth-rate show on your third-rated cable network.

In terms of viewship and staying power, Olbermann making fun of O'Reilly is like Ashlee Simpson making fun of Bruce Springsteen.

Ok...how about a differing opinion: There's a reason K.O left ESPN...he was difficult to work with. What do you expect from someone who does not know how to enter a subway car without getting his big 7 7/8 head caught in it? Oh...and he left MSNBC the first time when he got "tired" of the Monica Lewinsky scandal...nice objective reporting there, Keith. (Doesn't seem to get tired of skewering Bush, does he?)

hey cdet:

Jackass, what do you think the internet is for? We are all watching this clip and laughing at O'Reilly. And, if you want to count semi-retarded, emotionally stunted, spoon fed, uneducated, trash as "viewship", which I think makes you one of these O'Reilly viewers-"viewership" then keep watching him. Cuz Lord knows you don't have the IQ to open up a book and learn anything for yourself.

Rock on Olbermann!

O'Reilly, I pray that I see you on the street one day---oh, boy do I pray.

K.O is a pure idiot. The show is a joke. He doesn't even speak the REAL news. Is this even in primetime? No wonder nobody watches Countdown!

user-pic

Face it, MSNBC sucks. Fox News is and has been leading the way for years now. People on the bottom always hate the people on top.

But O'Reilly is allways right !?!?! He knows EVERYTHING, why would anyone make fun of him??? He should be the only source of news in the world...

(yea, it's called sarcasm... just to avoid missunderstandings)

Please have mercy on firefox users and post the movie using a different format. I do not wish to infect my computer with Quicktime and Itunes spyware.

That was

very

lame.

C'mon. reprt real news and not stupid voice-overs. That's acting like a five-year-old.

And the USA Network is not not not a competitive news channel, it's a movie channel and such.

This guy is pathetic. And all of you are pathetic for honoring this guy just because he fits into your politics.

user-pic

The deal is, O'Reilly is a pompus ass, he thinks his opinion matters when it amounts to shit. My rights as an american says he sucks. All Hail Colbert.

that's why God made quicktime alternative

The commentary missed Bill's points completely. Some networks have been fabricating stories to enrage their viewers and raise their ratings. The press needs to grow up. Both sides of the left/right debate need to take a deep breath put their feet in the others shoes for a while and become civil towards each others opinion. Sadly this is unlikely to happen in a election year. What has happened to us. If these were my kids I'd take em all to the woodshed.

O'Reilly should never have given credence to NBC at all by featuring them on talking points. As much as I like O'Reilly he left himself open to an idiotic shot like this. It reminds me of two kids on the school playground taking shots at each other. Each burning straw men and claiming victory. Olbermann looked like a ten year old snearing behind his teacher's back. You would think that Olbermann would be the better person and resist the tempation and bait that O'Reilly has put out but he went for it hook, line and stinker and he preaches to the choir.

The reason Countdown's rating are up 20% is because they were so small in the first place. You cant use percents to compare head to head ratings. Thats like saying the 100 lb kid who put on 20 pounds is now bigger than the 400 lb kid who lost 50.

OReilly's show is rated higher in total viewers than all of the shows that he goes up against combined. And from the hours of 4pm-12am Fox News has more viewers than any other news network. Hell, 5am day-old reruns on FNC regularly beat out live news programing on other networks.

Olbermann's show can't cut it as a real news program so he is trying to turn it into the daily show.

Way to call the kettle black Mr. Olbermann.

To keep relevant the real news needs an injection of the daily show.

Face it, all news is biased crapola. Why they even call them reporters anymore is beyond me. They don't report shit, they just make stuff up with half-truths and mostly lies. There's also a reason why they do call them anchors. Because they're so full of shit, if you dropped them in the ocean they'd sink to the bottom...u huh, like an anchor.

Thanks to the Internet, at least the lies get exposed about a million times faster today than they did 20 years ago.

Bottom line, by Bill even paying attention to K.O. it gives K.O. the spotlight. Giving mention to MSNBC on his air is exactly what they wanted. If you are number one you should act as though the other guys dont even exist - seems like that what the american TV viewers are doing.

K.O. has a hard on for Bill OReilly, he mentions him every single night on his show. Tell me how that doesnt look pathetic? To tell you the truth I dont think OReilly even knew who K.O. was until his staff pointed him out to him.

And oh yeah, to the person who thinks actual TV viewership doesnt matter for a TV show, someone needs to point out to you how the whole business of television works. I am sure the execs over at NBC are jumping for joy because a clip from their show was ripped to a website, instead of being watched on their air.

Typical of the poor reporting and ill posture of the second-rate MSNBC to poke fun at Fox News in a desperate attempt to get a better grasp on their Left-Wing Lunatic audience.

If MSNBC was truly a mature network, and not a parody of real news networks, this host would have been able to respond with mature debate rather than petty mockery.

This is obviously the network for five year old mentalities.

I am speechless at this..all I can say is amazing! Anything to put that Bill O'Reilly pervert in his place. I am so glad Ken made mention about that incident.

user-pic

Whatever K.O. is/isn't, Fox, like Trix, is for kids.

If Reagan "made us comfortable with our prejudices", Fox franchises prejudices. It's the common cold of cultural viruses, only it makes you feel good!

Remember Fascism? Well what is Foxism, if not a milder strain? To fight off cultural viruses, I might recommend meditation, Beat, or hiking in southern U_.

user-pic

It (Fox) does make you feel good, doesn't it?

I'm getting old.

shit. no wonder nobody watches MSLSD! what a way to make an ass out of yourself olbermann. i'm no big o'reilly fan either. i don't really agree w/ him on many of his opinions, but he certainly runs a more professional show than this. what was w/ the made-up "o'reilly" voice? don't they have engineers over there at mslsd who could splice those audio clips together? sheesh. how fucking lame. i wonder how many dipwads actually thought that was Bill O'Reilly's voice?

I had to chuckle at the clip but only because I watch Countdown the same way I watch the Daily Show assuming that it is suppose to hold a certain amount of humor (granted, give me jon stewart anyday)...as far as I can tell O'Reilly is not trying to be funny...I think he needs to grow a sense of humor. Either way, it is pathetic on both their parts to be acting like children. Calling one another out on national television...how pathetic.

I love it HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

user-pic

I love the little wave to Bill O'Reilly, best part.

Good clip. Thanks for the laughs, Norm.

Anyone who actually LIKES O'Reilly is a fucking idiot.

So O'Reilly editorializes on NBC, and Olbermann's response is to read that editorial in a silly voice.

I guess I'm missing something, I didn't find it amusing. Heck the only reason i came here is becuase the link from digg.com.

Reading the comments, it would appear people are into this stuff. Are you all children or just lemmings? At its best this clip is bad comedy, at its worst...

user-pic

Unlike Rush Limbaugh back in the day, O'Reilly doesn't get as many viewers from those that hate him. His detractors simply follow his antics through Media Matters and Obermann. This frustrates him to no end because none of us see it when he tries to play nice cop. We only see him at his most moronic.

Obermann really dislikes O'Reilly too much, I think. For that reason he feels the need to nail O'Reilly on everything he can, rather than just picking out the choicest comedy nuggets as Stewart does.

Loved it, but Olbermann's doing exactly what O'Reilly wants him to do. O'Reilly is a tireless self-promoter, and any time he can get someone to talk about him, he's happy. This happens when you spend the majority of your adult life with your head up your own ass.

I think you mean:

pwn3d

That was lame. You can tell KO has never watched O'Reilly. When you guys quote incorrectly and out of context it just exposed justhow desperate you really are. Sad, very sad.

Waaah! Someone's making fun of Ol' Falafel O'Reilly! Waah! The only thing sad here are people who actually watch and believe this propaganda. Tokyo Rose has NOTHING on this cretin.

Tooo funny. GREAT clip. I can't believe this was actually on the air?

Um... how do I tell these white guys in suits apart, again? :P

Um... how do I tell these white guys in suits apart, again? :P

God bless Olbermann. The Ted Baxter jab at the end was the best, but the "phone conversation with a producer" bit was the (pardon the pun) money shot...

I found it hilarious, but after checking the facts at factcheck.org its seems this will come back and bite Olbermann and on the butt, but who cares.

O'Reilly is an utter moron but this was lame. Olberman is not Jon Stewart.

Wow - read up from here and see the entire staff of the O'Liely factor come to their falaffel eating bosses' defense! I guess everybody needs a paycheck.

Freakin' priceless.

Thought I was watching Caddy Shack! GREAT.

So Olberman makes fun of O'Reilly, who is a pompous ass by being even more of a pompous ass?!? am I missing something?

So Olberman makes fun of O'Reilly, who is a pompous jerk, by being even more of a pompous jerk?!? am I missing something?

Is O'Reilly consitutionally capable of addressing critics without threating them?

Keith Olbermann is an American hero who definitely deserves the Medal of Freedom.

Which, I'm certain, will be awarded him by the incoming Democratic Party administration...after all the corRuptlicans are driven out of the White House and chased from the hallowed halls of our U.S. Congress.

Because Keith Olbermann is a voice for truth and reason, while Bill O'Reilly is just another corRuptlican Party hack into whining and deceitfulness.

Keith Olbermann. Medal of Freedom.

Hey, one can dream. And if it can be dreamt, then it can happen.

"To tell you the truth I dont think OReilly even knew who K.O. was until his staff pointed him out to him."

Huh, well, um, I didn't know who Falafel Bill was until someone pointed him out to me. I don't see how that makes me more famous (or whatever) than he. That is the point you were trying to make, right?

Hey, one can dream. And if it can be dreamt, then it can happen.

In fact, I see in my mind's eye Keith Olbermann leading off his outstanding MSNBC program in the near future with the latest news about the impeachment hearings of George "Heckuva job" Bush and Dick "Heckuva job" Cheney. It'll be a package deal: get two impeachments for the price of one. And then there will be the impeachment hearings for the corRuptlican who takes their place in the White House. Gee, starting about a year from now, the Impeachment Express will run until all the corRuptlicans that should be impeached are impeached. And, I'm certain, Keith Olbermann will do a great job covering the Impeachment Express. While Bill O'Reilly will continue to whine and defend his crony corRuptlican pals.

I can't believe this loser is still on television. His shtick died on ESPN and he ends up at the graveyard of careers... MSNBC.

I bet he thinks he is funny. Sounds like there is a "merry war" between the news networks. But it also sounds like MSNBC hires immature old people who like to make stupid voices when mocking others.

I don't like my news filtered through a childs mind before I hear it.

best news show out there!! keep it up, keith!!!

I can't believe they actually waste time doing crap like this.

I've read all I can take.

Oracle, where is this 'truth and reason' that K.O. is supposed to be speaking? All I heard were the ravings of an impetuous child stuck in an old man's body. He reported no facts about any part of the world. All he did was say, 'My dad can beat up your dad!' over and over again. The sad part is, his dad would be the nerd and Bill O'Reilly's dad would be the Wrestling Coach and head of the PTA. Smooth.

Your posts seem to be about how many times you can use the catchphrase, 'corRuptlicans' in a paragraph. Did you come up with that all by your widdle self or are you just a parrot (like so many other liberals these days, sadly)? I know a LOT of self-proclaimed liberals, and they all say exactly the same thing. Guess what, Mr. Original, you haven't exactly stunned me with your concise and intelligent writing ability. You sound like every other college student in a liberal schooling environment. Are you going to call him Shrub, too? In case you can't tell, I'm rolling my eyes right now.

I've got bad news for you, man: There is not going to be an Impeachment Express. On what grounds would one impeach President Bush? He had the same information that Congress did when they decided to fight the War on Terrorism. The same exact documents that said the same exact things. Somehow, it's his fault that the Intelligence Community got one thing wrong? They do a damn fine job, one that none of you Starbucks-drinking, tree-hugging hippie intellectuals are willing to do. Stop talking about your IQs, stop making multiple posts daily on some stupid blog. Go out and DO something. BE a hippie, if you want to be, but get out there and protest. Stick it to the man. Get off your posterior and WORK for it! I've never seen a lazier group of people than the anti-war protesters. A few posts on a website and suddenly you're... what? Nothing but another drop in the sea of information, guys. You are never going to be front-page material with this, and nobody will remember a word you say on here. Get over it.

Keith Olbermann is not, and will never, talk about the latest news. 'What Big Bad Bill said on his show' is not the latest news, it's a pissing contest. That idiotic mocking voice had to be the stupidest thing I've witnessed in a year (meaning since last February). Grow up. Then retire immediately.

So what's with all the falafel references? Let it die, don't use words like that over and over. It's been in over 20 posts on this page alone. It's like calling that nerdy kid on the playground a geek over and over again. Yes, it's true. Yes, it WAS funny. But when you say it over and over again you turn into the idiot who can't get a girlfriend. Make your point, then let it go. For everyone's sake.

Speaking of making points, what is with the lack of points here? I see nothing but crap like, "Anyone who actually LIKES O'Reilly is a fing idiot." by our very own JTH. And that's his (or her) entire post. Way to post something ... intelligent. I like Bill O'Reilly, myself. Whoops, that makes me a fing idiot by the Law of JTH, discovered in 2006. I'd better drop out of college and start pumping gas.

... so what exactly are you trying to get across? I don't quite understand what political viewpoint you are expressing here. That's because there IS no statement. You are posting just to read your own posts, it seems. Your post was a waste of about 2 seconds of my life, 2 seconds that I'll never get back. Good news, guys! I'm willing to waste a few more minutes of my life to ensure the prosperity of future generations.

I came here hoping to see some cogent arguments, maybe a few dissenters from the mainstream, and all I read is stuff you might hear in a game of grade-school dodgeball. You remember, where anyone who liked anyone on the other team was a traitor? Those were the days, weren't they guys? (sarcasm is bittersweet...)

I'm SO impressed with all you liberals right now, as you can tell. So way to make an impression on me.

Here's something that would be truly impressive: a single cogent argument. It wouldn't even have to be an argument. I'd settle for something less, like a liberal saying something that wasn't broadcast on the evening news. Could you just give me that, please?

^He's read all he can take.^

Look, I'm not a fan of O'Reilly at all. I've seen his show to know enough of what he is about and I don't really care to watch it. I've seen people rip O'Reilly and it's been hilarious. The Letterman show was funny, but I found it similar to someone making fun of the kid who knows all the answers in Trivial Pursuit. Granted we are playing with facts, not opinions, but O'Reilly clearly knew more about these situations than Letterman and Letterman was just poking fun at his stances. Anyway, this guy isn't funny at all. You want me to laugh at making fun of O'Reilly, see Stephen Colbert. This clip just saved me from ever watching Olbermann's show.

I have nothing against republican's, its the neocon's that piss me off.

user-pic

...you're probably not expressing yourself too coherently.

And there's no need to slam that post key repeatedly. Just once will do. Maybe take small breaks in between the hours of crafting the "perfect reply," and go meet a nice lady. Something to ease the tension, friend. (not sarcasm)

I will say this: I love that your biggest problem is that you want a "cogent argument," but your closest thing to supporting your arguments is saying that the intelligence community is doing "a damn fine job." Indeed. Just like Brownie did, right?

Well, that's the thirty seconds I'm going to spend on this. My girl's calling me from the bedroom...

To: "You people are Liberals"

All I have to say to you is I got 100 bucks on Olbermann kicking the crap O'Reilly in a steel cage, bare knuckle fight to the death, or till someone screams “Uncle” match. Whichever happens first. Just think about it. It would be the Fight of the Century, possible even bigger then your current favorite, Operation WMD, (oh wait...is there any way we can strike Weapons of Mass Destruction from the record....yeah we can?...so the Jedi Mind trick really works?...please have the record show that it was Operation Iraqi you call this Freedom not Operation WMD) Operation Iraqi you call this Freedom!

So, “You people are Liberals” is that concise and intelligent enough for you, or was it too Dervy / ITT Technical Institution for ya?

NOTEIf that whole fight to the death / screams “Uncle” match doesn’t ever really materialize, I sure would love to see Keith and the Staff over at MSNBC, throw down another installment of “ Olbermann vs O’Reilly Puppet TheaterEND NOTE

Isn't this type of stuff getting old?

It's just like rappers/singers dis'ing each other in their lyrics.

Say something original.

Its nice to know that the news anchors actually pay attention to more than the script reader. Im not american, but i belive that anyone who calls speaking up about corrupt politics "unpatriotic" dosnt deserve citezenship in any country.

Bill oriely is an amazing man. He stands for an amzing thing. Facism. Whether you like it or not the politcs of the US are run on facism. Republicism and neo concervatism will destroy liberalism. Why? because liberalism opposes the total view of republicism. Control and money. Control of oil and rights. Control of whatever. Why are we losing our rights and privacy? because it means more control for concervatives. Why the need for control? A number of things, security being one, and advancment of personal views is another.

What im trying to say is that Bush wants america to work for bush. Can any say that his policies are truly benifisial to the people he servs? What ever happend to what your country can do for you? Thats government right? A publicly elected council that serves the intrests of its electorate. Well in the usa it aint.

What can you do for your country? Serve your own intrests. "You call yourselves liberals?!" had a great post. You want something? et it. Hate that your country is capitalist? Then complain. Donate clothes. Campaing for government money... Oracle had an angry post. Yeah government is corrupt, but thats only cause it seems to be what you want.

Voting for someone who cuts taxes AND social spending isnt voting for someone who wants to help you. Can any single person on earth say that it would be a bad thing if the rich wernt quite as rich and the poor wernt homeless and hungry? Bono from U2 is an idiot. He campaigns for change and sings about how bad the world is and how much the western world could do, yet he still pays for designer glasses and clothing. Any little bit helps right? Well 10% of bonos salary is a big diff than 10% of mine. How bout bono spends his opulent fortune on the poor while the middle class struggles to create a better lifestyle?

Use less power, exersize more, invest in alternative fuels. Why should we be so kindly to our fellow man? Because in the end, your also working for you. Through society we develop ourselves. If our elected ones work for society then their working for us. What did i just say? I said put in some elbow grease if you want change.

Bush is corrupt. Why? because you let him. Oil is gold. Why? Becasue we keep using it. We will lose our prvacy. Why? We dont value it in society in the first place. We will destroy humanity through our innability to think of other.

bill orielly is loathed because deep down we know that what we (orilly included) doing is wrong

I haven't come this close to peeing my pants laughing in a long time. Thank you. Flying spaghetti monster bless you!

Dude, looks like someone unleashed the O'Reilly street team. Are they paying you guys in Factor mugs and mouse pads to go out and defend him on the internets or something? How nifty for you all.

Catch Keith Olbermann on The Dan Patrick Show on ESPN Radio from 2-3 PM EST!

Catch Keith Olbermann on The Dan Patrick Show on ESPN Radio every weekday at 2-3 PM EST!

O'Reilly attacks the ACLU nearly everyday.

The ACLU may be the only organization devoted to defending the Bill of Rights - so fascists like Fox News assholes NEED to blow up the BoR in order to make children pray to invisible monsters and deny contraception rights to women.

'You people are liberals?' is just another fascist Bushpig bent on killing freedom in this country.

"You people are liberals" said "So what's with all the falafel references? Let it die, don't use words like that over and over. It's been in over 20 posts on this page alone. Well, I don't think that the Falafel reference is going to go away any time soon. :) Suit settled If he were innocent of the charges, he would not have settled this lawsuit.

Falafel has to do with this suit. The reference is here

"Yes, it WAS funny" you say? Funny? No, not "funny"... it was disgusting. The O'Reilly lovers would like it if everyone would forget about all of this, but that is not going to happen.

It's pretty obvious that news analysts whether MSNBC or Fox have drunk the coolaid of self-importance and celebrity. That's why I like the Daily Show so much. It's honestly just comedy entertainment. These news orgs are trying to hide the fact that they are just entertainment. I'd say Olbermann's style has more to do with Jon Stewart than anything else. One more supporting argument that 'news' has become nothing more than entertainment

"They do a damn fine job, one that none of you Starbucks-drinking, tree-hugging hippie intellectuals are willing to do."

What a well reasoned argument...

/sarcasm

O'Reily is a jackass, his show is about as informative as a michael Moore "documentry" (not at all. People like those two make it almost impossible to disuss the state of our country in a rational manner, because some people, people on the "right" and "left" buy that drivel.

As far as the ACLU, they also go out of their way to protect child molesters, they won't get my sympathy.

user-pic

I thing NBC should dump the skits on SNL and the turn the whole of the show over to the Weekend Update segment with anchorman Keith. Mix the real, the surreal, and the fake, and then let the rabble sort it out. That would be great TV. KO ROCKS!

user-pic

I hate the ACLU with a passion. They use their incredibly large pockets to protect child molesters from getting the punishment they deserve. Stephen, you're spot on.

The ACLU is not a group devoted to protecting the bill of rights. The bill of rights includes the right to bear arms, something the ACLU is not quite happy with. The bill of rights has specific restrictions on freedom of speech, such as obscenity, that the ACLU doesn't care much for either. Every group is out for it's own interests, and the ACLU is no different. I hate them. If they had their way, this country would be a communist dictatorship. Guess who would be leading it?

user-pic

"...The bill of rights has specific restrictions on freedom of speech, such as obscenity..."

No, it doesn't. (Are you General Michael Hayden in disguise?)

Stay in school, dude.

Yes, yes, yes...the ACLU hates Murika and wants to clone Stalin so they can rule you.

Please stop huffing, breathing gas fumes is bad for you. The ACLU has problems, but you're projecting.

Child molestors and even the Klan have the right to free speech.

We all do - for now. Thank you, ACLU for defending that right for all of us!

Some notable excerpts about Olbermann Exiting ESPN from June 1997..

"ESPN is losing its sense of humor. Literally. Acerbic anchor Keith Olbermann--considered by many to be the sarcastic soul of SportsCenter--is leaving the cable network that made him a star, his agent said Wednesday"

"Where will Olbermann's wanderlust lead? Fox Sports and Court TV are among those fighting for his booming baritone and trademark goofy calls. ("He put the biscuit in the basket!")"

"ESPN wanted to rein in the free-spirited Olbermann, whose extracurricular activities also included penning a column for Baseball America and pitching sandwiches for Boston Market--all without permission from ESPN."

"No word from ESPN on a replacement for the Emmy-winning sportscaster, who, along with Patrick, form the cable channel's lead SportsCenter team."

"He was often angry about something [during his tenure in L.A.]," Los Angeles Times sportswriter Larry Stewart says. "The question is not why Olbermann got into trouble with ESPN management, but what took him so long? He may never be happy."

"You call yourselves liberals"-->"I hate them. If they had their way, this country would be a communist dictatorship. Guess who would be leading it?"

YCYLs really believes what he/she is saying. This is no troll. This person sincerely believes this.

Right, "they go out of their way to protect child molesters"

Stephen, you are attempting to come across as though you are not biased. I don't think that you even believe what you say, do you?

Despite me liking O'Reilly somewhat, this Olbermann guy ended up looking more like an idiot after this interview was done.

He did a great job at the beginning but when he proceeded to say stuff like calling Fox News president Satan (I know he was just supposedly mocking Bill, 2 wrongs dont make a right) and said that Letterman "kicked his ass". I guess by saying something completely ignorant like "60% of what you say is crap" and later saying he has never seen the show but based his opinion on "things I've read".

Now I know why I only watch MSNBC for Tucker Carlson and why O'Reilly is the #1 cable news program on TV. (if anyone think they are smart by calling me a stupid republican, don't, because I'm a democrat and I like CNN news the best)

Sorry for the triple post, was giving me a 500 internal error. (CQI sucks :p)

yeah, you really sound like a democrat. whatever.

Letterman's "things I've read" comment was tongue-in-cheek. Of course he's seen O'Reilly, of course he knows who O'Reilly is, and of course he knows exactly what he's saying.

It's part of Dave's schtick. He's been doing the self-deprecating "I don't know anything" routine for decades now. The exaggerated modesty is part of the gag. Guess you didn't catch that.....

Leno fan?

Jo Ann, Aren't we all biased in some way?

Thanks for the translation of my post! It was a complete waste of everyones time. I wanted to state my opinion on the ACLU, but I don't care for O'Reilly one bit and didn't want to come across as defending him. Just trying to seperate the 2 issues. Not everyone who dislikes the ACLU is a......what's the codeword now....."neocon" who worships at the alter of O'Reily. As far as saying that the ACLU protects child molesters or as someone else said the KKK, how is that outrageous? It's pretty much a common fact.

I guess that any opinion that doesn't fall 100% in line with your thinking is "outrageous"

Shrike, Correct me if I am wrong, but the ACLU doesn't protect child molesters rights to free speech (child molestation is a crime, so it's not like child molesters are out holding rallys), they try to protect their privacy by opposing laws that make it possible to notify parents that known child molesters live in your area. Very noble cause indeed.

Obviously, O'Reilly is a lying, destructive bigot. (Yes: obviously.)

But this Olbermann segment was just... infantile. Watching him, I felt empathetic embarrassment. That is, I felt how uncomfortable I'd be if I had any stake in his reputation as a news anchor.

Sure, you can disagree. But there is no integrity here, and it falls far from the standards we should be using for broadcast of the news. Just as Fox News isn't, neither is this. If you're debating either of these, it's probably time to turn off your TV and rediscover the world around you (or find an NPR station).

By the way, the recent Ted Koppel editorial in the NY Times provides an interesting perspective to the direction news media is going and how it got there. Check it out, if you care to.

Do I call myself liberal? Yeah, I guess I do. And you know what? I like freedom more than you and your bumper stickers do. gasp

Stephen, Please present the document issued by the ACLU of which you are speaking or are you voicing your opinion from hearsay?

I am amazed at how people protecting their freedom of expression is somehow equated with protecting their ideologies. Just because the ACLU protects the KKK's right to say whatever they want does not translate into them endorsing the KKK ideologies.

I just checked the ACLU archives and did not find any cases where they represented child molester's to protect their privacy by opposing laws that make it possible to notify parents that known child molesters live in your area.

Speaking of child molesters, here in the state I live in Republicans recently sent out a mass mailing that appeared to be a sex offender notification. Except it wasn't. It was an attack ad against Democrats and they just used the same picture of a sex offender for their mass mailings in all districts. Most people thought it was a sex offender notice and everyone freaked out and held town meetings. Boy were people pissed when they finally figured out it was not for real. Way to go, Republicans.

I will look and see what I can find, if I don't find it I will come back on on Monday and print a retraction.

Ah, well, that answers my question. Your opinion is based on heresay. Stephen, what is outrageous about your comment is that you claim that the ACLU "Goes out of their way to support child molesters." The way that you framed your comment is outrageous. The ACLU is not going out of their way to protect child molesters. They are going out of their way to protect free speech and other constitutional rights. In 2003, in Newsom v. Albemarle County School Bd, the ACLU backed a high school student's right to wear an NRA T-shirt. Does this mean that they go out of their way to protect the NRA? They supported Oliver North, so does this mean that they go out of their way to support trading arms for hostages? In Sept 2005, the ACLU supported the right of a New Jersey elementary school student to sing a religious song in a voluntary, after-school talent show. Does this mean that they go out of their way to protect Christians?

The ACLU supports the right of free speech, be it Christians, the NRA, the KKK, or NAMBLA. The ACLU puts it this way: "It is easy to defend freedom of speech when the message is something many people find at least reasonable. But the defense of freedom of speech is most critical when the message is one most people find repulsive. That was true when the Nazis marched in Skokie. It remains true today."

As for challenging a sex offender's right to privacy, yes, the ACLU challenges Megan's law and other similar laws based on the notion that these laws "impose punishment" and, thus, violate the Ex Post Facto Clause of the U.S. Constitution" and that this law causes the registrants to lose their jobs and become homeless, making them even more of a danger to the community. Here is a link to one of the briefs they have filed concerning these types of cases.

I'm not waiting until Monday, I'm giving a donation in Stephen's name to my local ACLU chapter.

Good idea. Done. Donated $50.

Will I get a membership card in the mail? I've always wanted to be able to say "I'm a card-carrying member of the ACLU."

Sure would be nice if these videos were posted in a open format, so that Linux users could see them too.

user-pic

LOL great video. If more people stood up to media bullies like O'Reilly, maybe we'd get back on the right track again. Go Keith!

user-pic

Bush had more information about 9/11 than Congress did -- that's why he's the President. Maybe you neo-cons need to take your civics classes over again.

O'Reilly is to real journalism what pro wrestling is to real sports.

FOX News isn't real news, it's all about furthering neo-con propaganda.

The media isn't liberal if Bush hasn't been impeached yet.

Lying in a State of the Union address (2002 -- mushroom cloud, yellowcake, etc.) is a violation of the Oath of Office and therefore an impeachable offense. If he wasn't lying, how come the speechwriter wasn't fired for including so many falsehoods in the speech?

Presidents 1-42 -- "Let me make you feel safer"

President 43 -- "Let me make sure you're not scared enough"

If wiretapes didn't work for Nixon, they shouldn't work for Dubya -- or have we regressed as a country that much since 1972?

Rumsfeld shook hands with Saddam back when he was murdering his own people.

Cheney has yet to take back his "insurgents in their last throes" comment or his "There's a danger that if we make the wrong choice in November, that we'll get hit again" comment or apologize for his F-bomb on Leahy.

This has been the administration of "anti-personal accountability" (It's everyone else's fault, but mine)

If American taxpayers are forced to spend $75 million to find out Clinton got a hummer from an intern, how come we can't spend a dime to find out Bush went to war with Iraq because he wanted to, not because we had to?

If someone had told the American people three years ago that a conflict with Iraq would cost $400 billion, kill thousands of American troops, destabilize the Middle East and result in only the capture of Saddam Hussein, how many of us would've gone along with it?

There were those in the Bush administration who had fought this war before (Vietnam) and knew this would happen again. Yet the leader of the free world crawled back into his bubble, donned his waxwings and began his flight toward the sun.

Heckuva job you're doing there, Bushie.

user-pic

Concerned that his segment wasn't news? This piece was an Op Ed, not news. Yes, broadcast news does editorials, just like the hold in your hands newspaper.

Keith Olbermann is the hottest man in the solar system.

Yeah, I think he's hot too. Some other jibronie will come along and says that he "sucks hard"... perhaps because they have no one else in their life who does... ;)

Brilliant!! But I don't think Olberman should get an Oscar...perhaps a Peabody...or is that a Polk?

It makes me a little uncomfortable to admit, but I do respect O'Reilly for his ability to take a strong stance and avoid going along with all of the Bush Administration's talking points. And sometimes he's right. What disturbs me are his lies and generalizations. Lying about things like the Silent Night lyrics controversy in the "War on Christmas-never happened. Saying things like "Clearly more pictures of Abu Ghraib help the terrorists as do Geneva Convention protections and civilian lawyers. So there's no question: The ACLU and the judges that side with them are terror allies." Or "If gay marriage is legalized, madam, then you're going to have to legalize polygamy." And of course he shouts down the liberal guests without giving them a chance to speak, but gives this administration and conservative guests complete softballs. (To Donald Rumsfeld "All right, so you and Dick Cheney aren't the torture guys the NY Times says you are?") I guess that's the nice thing about going on the O'Reilly Show: No matter what the facts are, you don't need to articulate your position. BIll will do it for you.

Well....that was terribly lame. No wonder no one watches his show. Was he seriously bragging about USA Network? That is laughable at best. This is the great network that brought us "Silk Stalkings" and "Pacific Blue" aka AC Slater on a bike.

Jo Ann, You say to show me any documentation that the ACLU protects child molesters, I say i'll get back to you monday, then before I have a chance to respond you say my arguement is "hersey" and then go on to basically say I am right? (See bleow.) Do you see the contradiction in your earlier post and this one? It's almost like you are debating yourself. Go google Megans law and ACLU.

"As for challenging a sex offender's right to privacy, yes, the ACLU challenges Megan's law and other similar laws based on the notion that these laws "impose punishment".

Sounds like they are protecting child molesters to me. Why are we argueing?

I see your arguement about the ACLU defending the NRA and allowing kids to sing Christian songs, kinda like your throwing some neocon a bone (i'm athiest and don't belong to the NRA) those are free speech issues, and that's all fine and dandy, I 100% agree with their stance on free speech. But what does opposing megans law have to do with free speech? These are people who have sex with little children against their will. Have any kids? I do, and if a person molests a kid in virginia, then gets out of jail, comes to Philly where I live, moves in down the block, where my kid plays, then I'd want to know about it. Most parents would.

That's mighty nice of you to donate to the ACLU for me, when they, or an offshoot such as a state chapter get Megans Law banned, as I believe they have in CA, and some 5 year old kid gets abducted, raped and stuffed in a sewer, and the guy who did it lived down the street and had a record that could not be diclosed, just stand up and say proudly "hey I helped fund that"

Stephen, I said that your argument was heresay because you had not actually read the document that the ACLU filed with regards to Megan's Law before commenting on this topic. You asked me to Google Megan's Law and the ACLU. Well, I obviously already had because I provided a link to the document in question. Did you read it? I already explained that the ACLU opposes Megan Law not because it supports child molesters, but because..... Here, I will copy and paste what I said, as you seem to have missed this point:

"...thus, violate the Ex Post Facto Clause of the U.S. Constitution" and that this law causes the registrants to lose their jobs and become homeless, making them even more of a danger to the community. Here is a link to one of the briefs they have filed concerning these types of cases."

Again, I provide the link for you. Perhaps you are not aware that when a word is highlighted in green, it indicates that it is a link to an article. I did not say that Megan's Law had to do with free speech as you can see from what I just repeated. It also has nothing to do with protecting child molesters' right to privacy, which is what you were claiming. Again, I repeat, it has to do with violations of the ex post facto clause of the U.S. Constitution. I provided the examples pertaining to free speech to demonstrate that the ACLU will support people such as the KKK, not because they support the atrocities committed by the KKK, but because they are committed to protecting constitutional rights. Likewise, they do not support the politics of the NRA, but they do support the right to free speech. I was not throwing you a bone. I was demonstrating that the ACLU is not supporting the NRA and the KKK because they support what they do, but because they insist that constitutional rights should be upheld for every person, whether that person is a Christian, a member of the NRA, a member of NAMBLA, a member of the KKK, or a child molester. Again, I will post the ACLU's philosophy regarding constitutional rights.

"It is easy to defend freedom of speech when the message is something many people find at least reasonable. But the defense of freedom of speech is most critical when the message is one most people find repulsive. That was true when the Nazis marched in Skokie. It remains true today."

Yes, the above example was in regards to free speech, but the principle applies to any constitutional clause. The ACLU does not just work towards protecting free speech, but all aspects of the U.S. Constitution.

I obviously don't think that you are a member of the KKK, but I listed them too, not just Christians and the NRA. I am not the one who said that I donated to the ACLU in your name. Cowboy said that. Also Hannah said that she donated to the ACLU. I think that I shall now go and make a donation to the ACLU because it protects my rights.

Im a Proud Liberal Democrat from Ohio, and wow, do I feel emberssed after an idiot like that tries to argue against someone that hurts those that share my views. I mean, at least sound a bit less annoying defending us from O'reily. This is why Fox has high ratings.

Yeah, I didn't realize that was a link, for some reason I can't get to it now. Maybe my intial post was a little beligerent. I don't believe they are sitting in a back room saying "boy I love child molesters" But I don't think your quote below pertains to Megans Law.

"...thus, violate the Ex Post Facto Clause of the U.S. Constitution" and that this law causes the registrants to lose their jobs and become homeless, making them even more of a danger to the community.

below from the attoorney generals website concering Megan's Law

It is a crime to use the information disclosed on the Attorney General's Internet Web site to commit a misdemeanor or felony. Unless the information is used to protect a person at risk, it is also prohibited to use any information that is disclosed pursuant to this Internet Web site for a purpose relating to health insurance, insurance, loans, credit, employment, education, scholarships, fellowships, housing, accommodations, or benefits, privileges, or services provided by any business.

I really can't recall any stories of child molesters who were trying to get on with their lives, living by the law, but could not get employeed, housing and such, and then went on crime sprees to the detriment of society

I'll tell you something else, and it's probably not too PC, but what the hell. I really have a hard time feeling any sympathy for child molesters. Maybe when you ruin a child for life phisically, mentally, sometimes both, or even end their life in some cases I really think you may lose some of your rights. Not for punitive spiteful reasons, I'm not one of those people, hell I have two very good friends who have prior criminal histories, and I don't believe just becuase you've commited a crime you should lose all of your rights. But when you having certain rights causes a DEMONSTRATED, not theoretcial danger to all of society, especially children, you have weigh your options, what is the lesser of the two evils.

Blatant un-Americanism.

www.i-am-bored.com linked to this site, and I expect to visit neither I Am Bored, nor this den of liberalism any longer.

However. I must say that O'Reilly gets out of hand sometimes...

That's why the Lemon Party was created. Kinda like Republicans, but not so radical.

Jo Ann,

Great response! I like how you are so devastatingly gracious when making your arguments. ; )

Stephen,

"I'll tell you something else, and it's probably not too PC, but what the hell. I really have a hard time feeling any sympathy for child molesters."

Please. It is politically correct to feel sympathy for child molesters? (In what universe?) But you bravely stand alone against the tide of child molester sympathizers.

That is so completely insulting.

Personally, I think we need to have tougher sentencing laws so rapists and child molesters who are likely to re-offend do not get released back into society. When I was in junior high school my best friend was molested by her stepfather. He was sentenced to 6 months in county jail. He got out and later was remarried and molested his new wife's 7 year old daughter.

As to the American Civil Liberties Union representing unsavory characters, criminals etc. You know what? I hate the KKK and the southern racist mentality I left behind when I moved to Seattle. But I would defend their right to free speech. Does that make me a KKK sympathizer? A self-hating black woman?

Hannah, I may have worded it wrong, I just meant that it's probably un PC to say you don't care about someones constitutional rights.

Read JoAnn's post, she obviously cares as does the ACLU about the civil liberties of child molesters. They are fighting a law that is specifically aimed at Child Molesters.

No It doesn't, these are two completely diffrent issues, supporting the KKK or any other groups right to speech is one thing, but the ACLU fighting Megans law is not a free speech issue. Child molesters and the ACLU aren't fighting for them to be able to hold rallys or wear t-shirts with slogans, they are fighting it because they believe that according to the constitution it is too punitive.

Stephen, I will repeat once again that it has to do with violating the ex post facto clause of the U.S. Constitution, and that it is over punitive for that reason. You never read the legal document that was filed, never looked up what the ex post facto clause is, so you don't understand what the ex post facto clause is all about. You are insinuating that I want to protect child molesters, and that somehow you have this great love for children and have this passion for protecting them that I am not capable of understanding. I just believe in protecting constituional rights for everyone. This conversation is going nowhere, unfortunately. Until you read the legal documents and read up on on the ex post facto clause, there is no purpose in continuing this conversation.

Keith Olbermann is The Man. He is funny, smart, sexy and handsome and keeps me tuned in from 8 til 9 five nights a week. I especially love his skewering of that blow hard O'Reilly. We need more Keith Olbermanns on TV!!!! He just cracks me up with his wit and humor.

To You people are Liberals?, you are lying through your thief with your comments:

"He had the same information that Congress did when they decided to fight the War on Terrorism. The same exact documents that said the same exact things."

Bush administration submited repors to Congress that censored qualifications and doubts of the CIA on Saddam's possession of WMDs.

This has been reported by the non-partisan commission that investigated the matter.

George Bush's administration misled the nation to war. This is the undeniable fact.

And Cheney did a fine job by insisting Saddam/Iraq had something to do with 9-11 but he produced any proof?

What happened to you at that time? Didn't speak up then?

Anyone who likes Oreilly is a myopic asshole with their head so far up their ass they don't know which way is up. They like to be misguided because of idiots like Oreilly and the president who uses intimidation, fear and untruthful opinions to get their way. Assholes who listen to people like this should do us all a favor and enlist and go over to Iraq instead of beating their gums and standing on their soapboxes and not really backing up their beliefs by actions. In other words actions speak loader than words so "go fuck yourselves!"

Keith Olbermann is an Islamo-Fascist Leftist traitor. He's insane and should be deported to that Leftist paradise called Cuba! he can work for Cuban propaganda and do a show for Al-Jazeera International!

I LOVED IT!!! BILL O'REILLY deserves everything he gets. More people need to stand up to bullies like him. O'Reilly wouldn't know professional behavior if it bit him in the ass.
