And the cards are falling!!! Yesssssssssssssssssssss. My Sweet Preccccciousssssss.
Georgie is going to be left standing all by himself when he faces the guillotine - but I am sure Laura will recommend a good piece of cake.
What is frightening is that many people in the USofA still think Dubya is a good man and his "team" is law-abiding. It is thjose damned "progressives" that are causing all of the problems.
Great story, if you're interested in reading a little more on the topic I would strongly suggest picking up Al Franken's new book The Truth With Jokes... he devotes an entire chapter to Abramoff and Scanlon's strategies for screwing the Native Americans.
The small pdf on the left side of the screen is a pretty interesting chart of money and social flows between indicted players in government right now.
burn baby burn
I want to hear how the apologists stick up for Abramoff and Delay now? Many good Republicans have been besmirched by the association of this man (Abramoff) to their party. Raymond B www.voteswagon.com
it will be interesting to see how many other cards fall as a result of Abramoff's 'co-operation'. Let's just hope the prsecuter is serious about taking this as deep as possible.
I found it interesting, and no doubt it's scaring the shit out of a lot of congress critters, to hear on Jim Lehrer's News Hour tonight that Abramoff's been "co-operating" with the feds for about 18 months now. That's just a few short months after this all started to surface. Considering he's facing 30+ years in jail (a life sentence and then some at his age) it's not surprising that he's co-operating, trying to get it reduced to a mere 10 or so years sentence.
The nice politicians have had the light shed on their dirty money, now they want to give it back and make all nice. I don’t think so. Now that Politicians have seen the light of day, they are trying to dump all of the dirty money they were holding that was provided to them by Jack Abramoff. Do they really think we are that stupid? How dare these individuals think they could fool us by taking the dirty money, then giving it back, or to charity, this is dirty and bad money, who wants it. Now that Jack has spilled the beans and rumors begin to spread that Jack is going to name names, all of a sudden these politicians think they can clean themselves up by doing something else with the money? Come on, we are not the dumb are we? Raymond B www.voteswagon.com
I took a quick look at TP's Congressional scorecard on the Abramoff debacle, and realized that, if I were Jack, I'd be scared.
You guys are hilarious. Abramoff is a GOP lobbyist? How about the $100 Grand Plus given to Patrick Kennedy? And here's the funny part...Kennedy isn't giving the money back? Harry Reid is caught up with Abramoff as well, so you guys be careful what you wish for...you might just get it.
If Harry Reid is caught up with Abramoff and has violated any laws he should be held accountable. What we wish for is justice for all, what is it you're looking for? Nobody prosecuted, only Democrats prosecuted. What is it you wish for, graft and corruption if it's Republicans doing it. It is obvious that most of Abramoff's lobbying was with Republicans after all they are in power. It is also obvious that they are the ones that are most at risk.
Now you are speculating because you know nothing about me or what I wish. I just exposed the hypocrosy of all the postings here that only mention the GOP coming down in the Abramoff scandal and nothing about the Dems. You don't wish for justice for all...you wish to exploit anything negative that happens in this country (or in the world for that matter) and blame Bush and/or Republicans for it. In fact, you guys can't wait for something bad to happen. That's pretty sick if you ask me, but I find this site more comical and entertaining than anything, so keep spouting off. It just goes to show how stuck on stupid the libs in this country are. Rock on!
You libs want the facts...here are the facts that prove your lies (i.e. GOP lobbyist Abramoff...):
Here is a list of the Senate Democrats who received Abramoff related money (40 of the 45). Just because the GOP has the majority, doesn't make this a GOP scandal. Boy how fun it is to prove you guys wrong...like shooting fish in a barrel.

Please don't say to me I'm stuck on Stupid. Those Democrats who you;ve mentioned received money from the groups Abramoff is associated with, not from Abramoff himself in the form of a bribe as all the others. I suggest you read a little further before start casting aspersions about people whom you/ve never met.
You are so stuck on stupid you need a new transmission. Don't you know Abramoff, just like everyone else, isn't allowed to donate money directly (not enough to make a difference) and that indirect money through association with these Indian tribes is what this thing is all about? That's what he has plead guilty to...creating a fake corporation outside of his law firm so he could reap the entire fee for lobbying services he was "supposedly" providing to the Indian tribes. In turn for these so called services that never happened, the Indian tribes (who little known fact happen to be exempt from the same campaign donation laws as everyone else...your liberal pal John McCain has gotten twice as much money from Indian tribes than the second person on the list...hmmm) gave $Millions to politicians all over the map...not just Republicans.
So go read a little further yourself (you will have to investigate outside the walls of your little blog site here) because I have the facts. That is unless you are happy being stuck on stupid. Hee hee.
You want another one? Here's an article out of your friendly paper, The Washington Post:
Democrat on Panel Probing Abramoff to Return Tribal Donations
From Washington Post Wednesday, December 14, 2005
The senior Democrat on the Senate committee investigating former lobbyist Jack Abramoff announced this week that he will return $67,000 in donations from Indian tribes represented by the indicted Republican. Sen. Byron L. Dorgan (N.D.), vice chairman of the Indian Affairs Committee, said he has never met Abramoff, nor did he advocate any program backed by Abramoff's tribal clients that he would not have otherwise embraced. But his move, reported yesterday in the Forum of Fargo, N.D., illustrates how broadly the political stain of Abramoff's money is spreading on Capitol Hill.
"I have returned all contributions to my campaign committee and my leadership political action committee from tribes represented by Mr. Abramoff's law firm and from individuals employed by his law firm during the time he was at the firm," Dorgan said in a statement. "Even though those contributions were legal and fully reported as required by law, I will not knowingly keep even one dollar in contributions if there is even a remote possibility that they could have been the result of any action Mr. Abramoff might have taken."
Aides conceded that the senator did advocate for programs pushed by Abramoff's clients around the time he was accepting tens of thousands of dollars from associates and clients of the lobbyist.
Dorgan's reimbursement came as a number of lawmakers move to amend campaign disclosure forms to reflect in-kind contributions from Abramoff and his clients, particularly the use of Abramoff's MCI Center skybox.
The Justice Department is leading a wide-ranging criminal investigation of Abramoff and his former partner, Michael D. Scanlon, based on evidence that points to possible corruption in Congress and the executive branch, according to lawyers involved in the case. Scanlon pleaded guilty on Nov. 21 to conspiring to bribe a congressman and other public officials, and he agreed to pay back more than $19 million he fraudulently charged Indian tribal clients. Scanlon has agreed to cooperate with prosecutors.
Prosecutors have already told one lawmaker, Rep. Robert W. Ney (R-Ohio), and his former chief of staff that they are preparing a possible bribery case against them, according to two sources knowledgeable about the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
The 35 to 40 investigators and prosecutors on the Abramoff case are focused on at least half a dozen Republican members of Congress, including former House majority leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) and Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Mont.), lawyers and others close to the probe said.
The investigators are looking at payments made by Abramoff and his colleagues to the wives of some lawmakers and at actions taken by senior Capitol Hill aides, some of whom went to work for Abramoff at the law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP, lawyers and others familiar with the probe said.
Since January 2004, Ney's congressional committee has filed 10 amended reports covering activities prior to 2004. Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) has acknowledged he did not properly report two fundraisers in Abramoff's sky box in 2002 and 2003. Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-Ariz.) has reported repayments totaling $12,880 to the Chitimacha and Choctaw tribes for in-kind contributions at 10 fundraising events.
Joe Eule, Hayworth's chief of staff, said such events are usually followed by a letter from event sponsors detailing the value of in-kind contributions, such as food and tickets, that must be reported to the Federal Election Commission or repaid. In the case of the Abramoff-sponsored events, Hayworth received no such letter and the events were forgotten, Eule said.
When some of the events were reported by the press, Hayworth aides contacted the FEC, which suggested that the tribes be reimbursed, he said.
Republican political strategists hope the rash of Abramoff-related activities will defuse the issue ahead of the November 2006 elections. Democrats have run two television advertisements in Montana, castigating Burns for his activities on behalf of Abramoff, but as the lobbyist's taint spreads, its political impact may dissipate, said Brian Nick, spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
"If the Democrats are alleging that Republicans are guilty of any wrongdoing, they're sitting in the same boat," he said. "It just becomes a nonstarter."
Dorgan aides said yesterday that the senator is guilty of nothing. He attended a March 2001 fundraiser in Abramoff's skybox, after being told it belonged to the Choctaws. He did press the Interior Department in 2003 to decide whether the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe of Massachusetts deserved federal recognition, around the time he accepted at least $11,500 from an Abramoff partner representing the tribe.
But, a Dorgan aide said, "they had a pretty good case. They had been waiting 29 years for a decision." And Dorgan did push to fully fund an Indian school construction program in 2002, around the time he collected $20,000 from Abramoff clients who wanted the program. But, the aide said, Dorgan has always supported school construction funds, and the program does not aid any specific tribe.
"I have worked for many years to improve the lives of American Indians," Dorgan said.
Thanks for keeping to the informal rules of the site. Criticize ideas? Yes. Criticize those for holding them? No. It seems Rush and Sean have taught you well young "stupid". Use blustery rhetoric, call names as often as possible, throw out facts with absolutely no context, then all the while pretend to stay above the fray calling for "better tone" and accusing opposition of being malicious. Brilliant. Here are some facts to digest: Jack Abramoff was a Bush Pioneer who not only helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for his campaign, but PERSONALLY wrote over 200K in PERSONAL checks to Republicans from '92 to present. Not one penny to a Democrat. He always directed his clients, as any lobbyist would, to give to both parties. Almost all of the money that went to Democrats came from Greenberg Traurig, a firm where J.A. directed about two dozen lobbyists. Of course he made sure to include two democrats, eventuall climbing to seven, in the group. (Fair and Balanced anyone?) All that really matters after that is if any of these senators or congressmen took money in an unethical manner, even a bribe, or knew that it was being funnelled in a squirrelly manner. J.A. and Scanlon were just money grubbing pigs. They didn't care who gave it to them, although I find it interesting that he is a notorious Republican who held enormous influence with DeLay, Bob Nay, and a staunchly conservative web of connections. I guess if you're a fat cat who plans on getting fatter, you know which side of your bread is buttered. If any member of Congress or the Senate took any money in an unethical manner then they should have the fire on their toes. The Republicans are in control, gluttonusly so, and that kind of power corrupts. Especially when you are a psycho combo of staunch "originalist" with some things (the Founding Fathers meant what they meant dammit!) and want to rewrite the Constitution on others (God hates gays, I just know it!). The right wing element in this country will not be satisfied until they are the world police, dictators of the no longer free mind, and for God's sake, this planet was just MADE for us to destroy. Don't you remember the passage in 2 Opinions chapter 3 where it talks about white male dominion over the earth? That's the one Jack Abramoff apparently read.
