Oh My, I'm So Surprised
Bush Administration wishful thinking once again fails to make a difference, and the drum-beat for a theocracy continues. Where there was a single Iran soon there will be two, and the dumbfuck president sings, I'm 'making the world safe for capitalism'
Early Results Show Religious Groups Leading in Iraqi Vote - New York Times
Early voting results announced by Iraqi electoral officials today indicated that religious groups, particularly the main Shiite coalition, had taken a commanding lead, with nearly two-thirds of the ballots having been counted.
The secular coalition led by Ayad Allawi, the former prime minister, had won only meager support in crucial provinces where it had expected to do well, including Baghdad. Another prominent secular candidate, Ahmad Chalabi, the former Pentagon favorite, won less than half a percent of the vote in Baghdad, possibly denying him a seat in the new Parliament.

I'm just curious how many "secular" seats and persons fill offices in places such as Israel? Is there an assumption here that religious people bring with them an irrational or dangerous fanaticism? If so, why is this criticism not equally levelled at both Israel, the U.S., and most Western nations? Or, am I really supposed to believe that Iraq and Iran's religions and religious people are somehow magically more dangerous than Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Communists, Capitalists, etc.? And yes, I believe economic "ism"s are just as much religions as anything else. Woo hoo! Happy Something Or Other!
hey Norm, do you mean single Iraq, rather than Iran?
great site thanks
"Is there an assumption here that religious people bring with them an irrational or dangerous fanaticism?" If you add FUNDAMENTALIST in front of religious people the answer is YES. "If so, why is this criticism not equally levelled at both Israel, the U.S., and most Western nations? " Because the discussion here is of Iraq, though I have no problem including fundamentalists of all stripes. Let me put it this way, I include any group that abandons reason for religious dogma.
The scary thing was when I read the intro: "Where there was a single Iran soon there will be two, and the dumbfuck president sings, I'm 'making the world safe for capitalism'" I assumed you were talking about the U.S.
