sux. but this does not.
That was actually one of the funnier SNL sketches I've seen in awhile. The best line was definitely 'You can call us Aaron Burr from the way we're droppin Hamiltons'. I wish they were consistently good but thanks for the post :) We don't celebrate Christmas much over here so I was getting bored!
Best SNL bit since Will Ferrell left. Thanks!
I agree, that was pretty funny. Better lyrics than most of the stuff on the radio. The Hamilton line was special =)
Just when you think that SNL is the Terri Schiavo of TV she stands up and does a great little tap dance. Don’t pull the plug just yet, folks. Thanks, Norm.
FYI: This clip is a free video-download on iTunes at the moment.
This is good. The line about Burr and Hamilton made me larf, big. But, someone with better ears, help me out. What was the repeating line about Chronic something, something of Narnia?
I'm a deaf musican.
they're rapping we love the chronic(what)als of narnia
These guys are awesome. They've been doing skits on their website www.thelonelyisland.com and some shows on channel101.com for years. It's great to see them on network television.
Check out http://thelonelyisland.com/just2guyz.html I think the 2 other guys who weren't on the SNL clip are writers for SNL.
I saw this when it aired last week, and me and my roommate just mouthed giants "wow"s to eachother after. It's amazing how something as simple as cupcakes held up to a stern face can be effing hilarious. Maybe this Adam Greenburg kid can rejuvinate the heavily lacking spark in the SNL cast. MaybeMaybe.
I don't get what's so funny about this. It's cute and all, but...and to be mr. sourpuss here, but haven't we seen the white-nerdy-guys rapping shtick about a thousand billion times?
I would have thought this comedy vein is totally played out, but for some reason people seem to like it.
Go figure.
BTW- for whoever was asking the "joke" is "chronic" is a type of pot. but they say "chronic...cles of narnia" so I guess it's funny (?)
this is goood because its not stupid tv rap.. stupid tv raps usually start out: My name is ** and im hear to say....
the music is good, the delivery is awesome, the lyrics are funny and are true to the hip hop spirit.. and its about narnia and cupcakes...
I'm gonna double true 'Mr. Sourpuss I guess' C'mon Y'all! The whole White Men Can't Jump (Oh, wait! They can! How urban cute!) thing was played out when it came out in '92!
There's a lot of comedians I don't like... I would hate to be that guy who always says "I'm better than you because I didn't laugh at this." I bet conversations at the dinner table are lovely.
I enjoy rap and hip hop, but I did not enjoy this piece for its great musical qualities. I found it mildly amusing and I enjoyed watching it. And to clarify, I hate MTV rap or any other music on MTV.
This is just a spoof, so I won't say, "Put down that microphone".. Rap group that I enjoy the most is Souls of Mischief..
Sourpuss said. "BTW- for whoever was asking the "joke" is "chronic" is a type of pot. but they say "chronic...cles of narnia" so I guess it's funny (?)"
I am out of the loop! I had no idea that chronic is a type of pot.. So they are singing, cronic -what??- cles of Narnia. Sounds like the kind of humor that college kids enjoy. Like, hey man, that was a really cool vid... come on now, stop bogarting that joint, man... hey, man..
If I know one thing about comedy it's that it is a tough genre. What one person thinks is hilarious another will be scratching her head saying, "I don't get it." I refuse to apologize for something that makes me laugh like this video did until I moved on to the next thing that cracked me up. An episode of The Simpsons in which Mick Jagger was reciting the rules to his rock and roll camp. "Rule One: There are NO RULES" (wild applause from the crowd) "Rule Two: No outside food." If that isn't funny for you perhaps you are humor-impaired (or just a better adjusted person than I).
That's the cleverest SNL sketch I've seen in a long time. Lately though, the show has been pretty dismal.
What made this was that it was a fully realized concept, not some goat-boy thing, spoof of public TV out in the hinterlands (even though that's pretty funny), or similar. IOW, for once, it's clearly based on the life they're living, however mundane. Hey, they embrace it, trivial or not.
I mean, it was pretty well realized, but the concept is key. Anon is correct that most 'we're white isn't rap funny' starts with 'My name is ** and im hear to say....'. This was clearly based on something they started banging back and forth when they were on the way to or from the actual movie, and it has the lived in feel for that reason.
They make no concession to, or even recognition of, the 'white rap' thing as such. They just take the topic and roll with it.
I think it's actually a minor masterpiece.
LeftBanker said "If I know one thing about comedy it's that it is a tough genre. What one person thinks is hilarious another will be scratching her head saying, "I don't get it""..
So true. It is tough to be a comedian. I do sympathize with the idea that not everyone finds the same things funny. I love Boxcar (also humor for college-aged folks), but others think he is a simpleton.
The sad thing is that as the years pass by, I find fewer things that make me laugh. :( So why do I find the juvenile humor of Boxcar so hilarious and not the humor of the Lazy Sunday video clip? Go figure..
I guess the thing that gets to me about this is that it's pretty much EXACTLY what the Beastie Boys were doing in 1991. Silly cultural references with a kind of silly "we're badasses" spin. (Same over-the-top attitude that Jack Black has in his music). And Weird Al has been doing the shove-food-in-your-video thing since about 1980. So I don't get what's especially novel or brilliant about this particular take on it. But it's EVERYWHERE on the net for some reason...
Like I said, I think it's cute and all. But does it really warrant all the hype it's getting? SNL must be sucking pretty bad these days if this is an example of it getting back on the right track..
Frank Zappa comes to mind before Weird Al... wait, we're a bit off track here. These are just a few clever kids who want to make people laugh.
I really don't like SNL anymore. In fact, I fucking despise it now...but that was really funny.
I don't know why, but they reminded me of the Beastie Boys and I love the Beastie Boys so it was nice.
Good stuff.
I think "The Dudes" from The Lonely island are really really funny in the same way that i Love Bob and David, or even Bob and Ray.... This whole thing is TOTALLY them and stands out like crazy because all SNL can do is mock 'celebrities' and who gives a fuck about shit like jLo jokes...
it's funny b'cos there is no explaination, no set up and no excuses... everything that makes "Arrested Development' a pain for me to sit thru, an incredible cast wasted as some disjointed 'narrator' 'EXPLAINS" every fuckin joke.
The Dudes are goin places, they've been places too, and this is nowhere NEAR their best stuff! Check it out and remember: It's made with LOVE!! ! ! www.thelonelyisland.com
just cause a jokes been done before doesnt mean its not still funny
I don't normally watch SNL anymore, but when I saw that clip I nearly peed myself.
you fags need to lighten up. if it's not funny to you just pass on it.
most people will find it funny because they don't pimp bitches and slap ho's but they do go to see movies and complain about prices of drinks and snacks at the theater. most of us sneak shit into theeaters. most of us have a favorite map site (google maps is indeed the best!).
Anyway, this seems like the first rap/hiphop song ever to sing about the life that I live.
That's why it's funny. My life is boring!
That ther was total and utter lolz It made me laf soooooooo hard :):):):):)
Comedy is objective.
'You can call us Aaron Burr from the way we're droppin Hamiltons'..
You either get it, or you do not, its as simple as that. And be advised, it has nothing to do with your knowledge or American history - you can be a Hamilton biographer for all I care.
My girlfriend wrote a paper about the Hamilton-Burr duel, and she did not understand why I was laughing.
But I and millions of other Americans stomping on the ground knew just why. :)
