Quicktime Problems

I discovered an error in my quicktime code that caused all the videos to download when PC users accessed the page with IE. I've fixed it. Would a few of you who have PCs try a few of the videos both with Firefox and IE and give me detailed reports of any problems in the comments. I also want to know if you're successful. Some Windows users have reported updating their activex has solved the problem.

If you send me an email about a problem with the site please tell me what operating system as well as what browser you are using.

I'm a PC Firefox user (Windows XP). I haven't had any problems. Thanks!

Hey norm, I have also upgraded to the quicktime 7 version, and ive been having a problem as well. When the page loads, before you get to "click" on the picture to play, there is an error that will shut down ie completely. Its happened about 7 or 8 times already , but i found a way around it ,... as the page loads, i hit the stop button and am able to click on and watch the video, but as soon as i try to reload the page, the I.E. shuts off again.

I have had the same problem with both IE and Firefox after the upgrade to version 7, since about 2pm EDT it seems to be working on firefox.

I have Firefox and Windows XP. When I try to watch the TDS clip windows informs that it will shut down firefox. Then follows this report:

"Error caused by Apple Computer, Inc.: No specific solution found

Thank you for submitting an error report.

Problem description

An analyst at Microsoft has investigated this problem and determined that an unknown error occurred in QuickTime Player. This software was created by Apple Computer, Inc..

Solution

Microsoft has researched this problem with Apple Computer, Inc., and they do not currently have a solution for the problem that you reported. Below is a list of recommendations to take that may help prevent the problem from recurring."

This has happened recently couple of times here. I will try 4th time to watch this Wal-Mart clip.

hi, love the site - which is a bit sad since i can't install quicktime 7 yet... apple did a really bad job with it for proffesional users, so 6.5 is the only version supported still...

can' wait to get my daily dosage of videos here again when qt7 is stable enough to be supported by pro apps :]

keep it up.. f

Quicktime 7 seems to notoriously unstable, at least the Windows version. However, I found (somewhere on the web) the solution that worked for me (Win, Firefox, Quicktime Alternative): first, uninstall Quicktime 7 and manually remove the corresponding files from each user's Application Data\Apple Computer folders. Then reinstall Quicktime 7 (or Quicktime Alternative).

Hope this helps.

Wow, Norm, what do you pay for bandwidth??

Hey is there some way to hide the email address (maybe replace with a little Turing test) in these threads? I get enough spam as it is...

Cheers!

Windows/IE user here, and, yes, I think you fixed the problem. Ever since upgrading to QT 7, I noticed the progress bar on each video when the page loaded. Now, progress bars don't appear until i click on a video. Also, I suppose because it was trying to load all videos, IE would crash quite frequently. (I would hit the stop button before crashing and go to permalinks instead, to get around the issue.) Haven't had that problem today.

Also, up until a day or two ago, the volume on all videos was quite low, requiring me to use headphones...Now, I don't need them. (Don't know if you did something to make the videos more audible or if I'm just imagining things)

I use Windows XP Microsoft Internet Explorer and I would occasionaly get an error message the same as cluelessanon. But I would just try again, and it would work. I haven't had a crash in awhile though. It seems to be variable. I am switching over to DSL high-speed internet service to see if I have any better luck.

I am having problems staying on the page. I use Windows XP Pro, Firefox 1.0.7, and Quicktime 7.0.3.50. When I go to the main page, I get an error in Firefox and it closes down. The error report claims the problem is with Quicktime.

Win XP Pro Ver 5.1.2600 SP2 HP Pavilion zd8000 [custom built] Processor x86 Family 15 Model 4 Stepping 3 GenuineIntel ~2992 Mhz BIOS Version/Date Hewlett-Packard F.33, 7/7/05

Built with $600 custom features over base price for ZD8000 August 2005, so up to date, m'kay?

Strange... I can start WalMart, then Robertson then Ali, and hear all three overlapping. Same with Firefox and IE. I use Net Vampire to suck down your QT vids to my HD, one at a time.

So on a 3-month-old WinXP laptop, no problems, if I wait for one QT to finish before starting another.

I'v been having problems for the last several days on both IE and Firefox on my home computer.

If I let the page load completely, either browser will give me an error message and shut down completely. If I stop the page before it finishes loading, it won't shut down. (I can't view the vids this way, but I can read any text on the page including comments.) I tried again this morning (just on Firefox) and still got the same error. I'm on a dialup at home on Windoze XP. I'm not sure what edition but can check when I get home if you like.

I don't experience this problem on my system at work. At work I'm on a LAN and on XP Professional, service pack 2.

Does any of this help? Do you need more info?

everything works fine on my end. FireFox, XP, QT7, etc.. It was crashing earlier but once the Tylenol kicked in the page loaded fine and now we're cookin' up some tasty vids.

Windows XP Latest vers. of QT Opera 8.5 (latest version)

Can't access 1gm using my favourite browser, Opera 8.5...Opera crashes when the page loads...:-/

Quicktime 7.0.2 crashes Firefox 1.0.7 Opera 8.5 IE 6, SP2 on my Windows XP Home SP2 I haven't been able to load 1gm since November 6.

Quicktime 7.0.2 crashes Firefox 1.0.7 Opera 8.5 IE 6, SP2 on my Windows XP Home SP2 I haven't been able to load 1gm since November 6.

I'm running Firefox on WinXP and if I don't click the 'stop' button quite soon after loading the text for the page, Firefox crashes and I get a similar report to the one others have cited after sending an error report, i.e., contact Apple for support.

Dell computer, 1.5 Gigs RAM, Win XP SP2; all updates current,IE 6, SP2,all updates current, Quicktime 7.0.3 crashes IE when I access your site unless I click "Stop" button almost immediately. The number of videos I can then view change every time depending on how long I allow before hitting “stop.” Have tried removing npqtplugin.dll, npqtplugin2.dll and QuickTimePlugin.class from C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\PLUGINS; then uninstalled quicktime, deleted remaining files in the quicktime folder and and then reinstalled quicktime. This made everything work----until I rebooted. I’ve spend hours trying various solutions suggested on the web and I’m ready to complain to Apple. Any ideas?

Stevemo

I'm sorry you're having so much trouble. Have you tried uninstalling Quicktime and installing Quicktime Alternative

Norm - will this work for my problem as well? I outlined my issues a few posts up from Stevemo but you never responded.

Are you still working on the problems to address the rest of us who replied that there are error issues at the OGM site?

Thanks.

It might. I've looked at it on my son's machine and one at the office both with XP and firefox has not problems. Updating ActiveX has helped some uninstalling and reinstalling has solved it for others. There is obviously a problem for some, but the combination of factors that causes it is a mystery. I suggested Quicktime Alternative, as a last resort. Many have reported that it has worked although It is not something I've personally tried. I'm continuing to research the problem.

I use firefox at the office and MS IE at home. I have more problems with IE and Quicktime on my home computer. In fact, MS inserts a kindly worded missive to say it's APPLE's fault whenever this codex/dll/whatever crashes the application.

I'm thinking there is more latitude/forgiving with firefox.

I'm using Win XP on both home and office machines.

I have a theory, since some have got it to work by reinstalling only to have it screw up after a reboot. I think perhaps it is some startup program. If you want to test the idea after a reinstall go to Start/ Run/ msconfig and do either a diagnostic startup or a selective startup leaving out the startup programs. If anyone with the problem tries this and has any success please report back.

Norm, thanks for the suggestions. I tried uninstalling Quicktime and trying the Quicktime Alt. but I still have the same problem. IE crashed ~10 times before I could get back to here by clicking stop at the right time. I'm fairly sure that I didn't have any problems before I switched to Quicktime 7.0.3, but I removed any other software I loaded since then also, but it didn't help. I won't have anymore time to spend on it until after ~10 December because of work deadlines.
