Iraq's oil: The spoils of war
Independent Online Edition > Middle East: "Iraqis face the dire prospect of losing up to $200bn (£116bn) of the wealth of their country if an American-inspired plan to hand over development of its oil reserves to US and British multinationals comes into force next year. A report produced by American and British pressure groups warns Iraq will be caught in an 'old colonial trap' if it allows foreign companies to take a share of its vast energy reserves. The report is certain to reawaken fears that the real purpose of the 2003 war on Iraq was to ensure its oil came under Western control."

There is oil over there?
It's always been about the oil. Remember the original name for the invasion? Operation Iraqi Liberation
Remember Executive Order 13303?
http://reclaimdemocracy.org/articles2003/executiveorder_13303.html
This executive order from May 2003 said that Iraqi oil was the property of George W. Bush (and the United States).
I thought we were just there to free the Iraq people of a ruthless dictator? Ok fine, take some of the profits from the oil and pay for the war effort and spend the rest for the rebuilding projects. ya right...Like that will ever happen!
the massive incompetence in the war effort has started to convince me that instability was one of the purposes. how much money has gone missing so far? (i could be wrong but i think i remember reading a while ago that it was $1 billion unaccounted for)
...and meanwhile U.S. oil companies post record profits. But noooo, this war was not about oil, but Freedom & Democracy (Tm), right?
And for more irony, those same oil companies are inflating the prices at the pump (while wearing the American flag lapel pin, of course), and then that democratically elected foreign president that Pat Robertson wants to assassinate, Chavez, is providing cheap gas to America's poor in the Bronx at reduced prices...
