Alito
When I first watched this clip I didn't think it was particularly funny, but in light of this article, I'm not sure. What do you think? Is it funny or not. Alito writing backed privacy, gay rights - The Boston Globe: " As a senior at Princeton University, Samuel A. Alito Jr. chaired an undergraduate task force that recommended the decriminalization of sodomy, accused the CIA and the FBI of invading the privacy of citizens, and said discrimination against gays in hiring ''should be forbidden.'"

I dont think he belongs on the bench at all. The piece makes a good case for why we shouldnt want him on the SCOTUS, it also seems clear why Bush wants him there.
CB.
Good article...
Even though many disagree on whether abortion should be outlawed, I expect most like Alito believe - if presented with the question of outlawing - I think he would say that it needs to be reasonably regulated. Reasonably is so subjective of course.
I don't know of any case where he has done like Scalia clearly did in the Casey case(Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey, 505 U.S 833)
No matter what, he will get confirmed whether we like it or not - the conservatives will invoke the Nuclear Option if needed. It sucks!
I watched it last night and laughed my ass off. Conan makes me laugh all the time...
Norm, You might be interested in knowing the Utah connection with Sammy Alito.
There is a strong connection with BYU School of Law graduate Jay T. Jorgensen. He's is working closely with Orrin to get Alito in the Supreme Court.
A snippet from Americablog.com:
From Rob in Baltimore. After reading several Third Circuit opinions, Jay became particularly interested in working for Judge Alito. "I was impressed by several opinions [Judge Alito] authored, and several professors and practitioners recommended I apply to him," he said. Jay credits his success in obtaining his judicial clerkship to the Law School's faculty and to many members of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society who encouraged him to apply for a judicial clerkship, shared information about particular judges, advised him about application procedures, and recommended him to Judge Alito.
Ken Starr and Scalito. This guy loved Scalito so much he got his BYU law school cronies to help get him a clerkship with Scalito. I don't think that this makes him all that qualified to spin on my TV at 6:50 AM. Maybe it's because of the paper he authored for the Federalist Society... . . . And just who are the other memebers of the Federalist Society? Why Robert Bork! And Justice Scalia! And Ken Starr! And John Ashcroft! And Orrin Hatch!
Norm, has NBC, or Comedy Central or HBO or any of the other people who create these videos given you permission to use their content on your blog site? Perhaps they have, just curious.
Norm and anon,
Currently there is no such rule in place, but the FCC attempted to prevent people from capturing video with a DVR, PC, etc. so the clips could not be shared. This attempt by the FCC with the "Brodcast Flag Rule" was struck down in the D.C. Court of Appeals for many reasons, one of the biggest was it went against the TEACH ACT. The TEACH ACT currently allows educators to use clips for educational purposes.
From what I see, he is in the clear unless he was charging for the viewing of this material.
that was in 1971. how does anyone know if he still thinks that way?
case in point: at roughly the same time, our glorious leader was an alcoholic cokehead. now he claims he'd never go near the stuff.
why can't alito have made a 180?
It may be true that it's OK to use the content for non-profit purposes -- but I've always wondered about sticking "onegoodmove.org" at the end of every clip. No video here has ever been produced by OGM. That's the part that smells like an advert. Especially considering that there ARE adverts on the right side of the main page. I doubt the FCC would be cool with that!
Obviously I'm not against it personally; I'm sort of being the devil's advocate here. Considering the growing popularity of this site (query "move" in Google, and OGM is within the first 2 pages) -- some concern is warranted. I'd kill the end credits. Not only because they don't belong on someone else's content, but because the legal part might come back to bite someone one day! Would hate to see anything like that happen to this blog.
Good point Reese's,
I will check with one of my professors here - we have one here who teaches entertainment law and intellectual property, he would know for sure.
Let you know what I find out.
