Phil Donahue - Bill O'Reilly

Bill O'Reilly and Phil Donahue going at it. Bill is either feigning outrage or he's a couple of tiny steps away from a complete breakdown. Please note this video is encoded in h.264 and requires Quicktime 7 which is now available for both PCs and Macs. If you haven't upgraded yet now is a good time. I'm going to start encoding more videos with this codec in the future. If you don't want to upgrade now Crooks and Liars has versions both in Quicktime and Windows Media. Note that his Quicktime version is smaller and the file size is nearly double what I was able to obtain using h264, which explains why I'm asking that you upgrade. Less bandwidth use for me and faster loading for you.

bummer on the new encodeing. the only reason im sad is i use something called quicktime alternative, which is for pc 1000000 times better than the quicktime player, and unfortunatly it wont play the new encodes. so well, progress...

Wow. That was obnoxious to watch.

Notice how Bill's introduction to the debate starts with "Sheehan loves terrorists and hates America" (I paraphrase) then, as the debate opens, Phil claims that FOX paints these people as unamerican and Bill responds "I've never called Cindy Sheehan unamerican". Nice Bill. Real smooth.

I'm not living in the US and a rarely watch fox. I know fox is definitely pro Bush and Bill O'Reilly as their loud sincere (although misguided) frontrunner. But this interview was great, he had just enough respect for Phil Donahue to really try to discuss the issue instead of using the guest to justify his monologues.

Really great to watch, thanks!

Such a fired up dialogue (if you can call it that) you won't find in the Netherlands although is there under the surface.

I never watch him but just once I would like to see a clip of O'Reilly being overbearing and immature to someone who is way out of his league and put him in his place. Donahue does ok but he still plays O'Reilly's immature game. It's not a pissing match, it's an interview. O'Reilly would cry like a little girl if he had to face what the US troops face every day. It's easy to pretend to be tough, it's another thing to back it up. I like what Roosevelt said "Speak softly but carry a big stick" It seems we've become a coutry that speaks loud but can't back up anything we say. The reason for this is the current administration is spewing so much BS half the American people don't want to back up what they are spewing. I thought the US was supposed to do what's right not what's most profitable, when did this change for the worse?

Bottomline: Bill O's Reily is a gay.

Please note, I have nothing agianst gay, it's simply rheotorical in the sense Bill O' Reily hate Gays.

QuickTime Alternative 1.62 plays the files tho it doesnt show the placeholders.

As for the interview... I'm blown away with the new face of the american mainstream.. who'd have thunk old Phil would be blowing off at that ass like that. This sort of out in the open dissent hasn't been around for like 30 years. Shame it takes such incredible injustice to wake everyone up over there.

Phil's reference to Bill's outrageous and disgusting Jeremy Glick interview was inspired.

I always liked Donohue's show and I have to say the man has great taste in woman, Marlo Thomas, That Girl, is a real sweetie. This was fantastic, it's really good to see Fathead O'Reilly face a formidable opponent.

Repetition and volume can't turn lies into facts.

Bill can't possibly claim that he's being fair to Sheehan. The venom he injected into the word 'dissent' at the beginning set the tone for the rest of it. I've never heard a term inbued with so much malice.

I don't think that was so bad. I'll even grant O'Reilly that he's in it with his heart. But what's even greater is that Donahue isn't bullied by him.

I read on Slate once, that O'Reilly respects cojones. It sure looks like it. I wish his other liberal guests would take that to heart.

TERRRA!!

woot, thanks for saying about 162, my version was way old. yay!!!

Galloway could kick O'Reilly's ass really good. I'd love to see that.

Hmm, Quicktime alternative 1.62 will only play sound for me. Firefox 1.0.6 that is. :(

A great lesson in how to weather "yell and wave your arms" intimidation tactics without sinking to their level.

Props to Phil.

Please reconsider using the H.264 codec. I use a iBook with a G3 processor, which is not compatible with it.

i find it amazing that it is ok for us to go over to a country that had nothing to do with 9/11... thank you donahue for making sure to point that out... and kill the people there.... but oreilly has the balls to say that the 'insurgents' don't have a right to defend their country from invasion! that's what it is btw.... we invaded their country without provocation. at least oreilly admits that the reasons we went were not good ones in the end, but he still insists we should be there! because of the terrorists!

and i loved how donahue said that we're gonna cut and run anyway. i have no doubt about that! as soon as they bleed dry every penny they can out of this, they will certainly do that! and we will be worse off. bush and all his blind followers and pundits ought to be ashamed of themselves! they spout their bs and people die! oreilly as well as the rest of them have blood on their hands! and each day more innocent people die!

Scratch what I said previously. I just played the above clip and it was fine... I guess it's just the high definition (H.264 HD) codec used by some movie trailers on Apple's QuickTime movie trailer site that wont play correctly. Huh.

I was just reviewing the clip without sound (I was too lazy to turn on my speakers and I was interested in seeing how the new codec appeared) and already O'Reilly looks like he was being a big jackass. His posture and body language are so confrontational and angry.

"Galloway could kick O'Reilly's ass really good. I'd love to see that."

Galloway is just another guy who thinks shouting loudly wins debates.

Total bummer on the new codec. I too used QT Alt. Having downloaded the new free player I find I can't save these clips without buying it:(

As for the screaming match that passes for an interview, unspeakable!!

See y'all on the streets on Saturday.

I'd like to know why "Billy" (from now on he's got to be just "Billy") even let this clip out of the can. It was great to see him flattened.

He can't handle a real opponent. He's such a fake. And that finger! I love that even from the camera view of his guest you get the finger in the corner of the screen! It's so tacky!

The highlight of the clip is when O'Reilly says, about his cousin, "He's my blood!" Must not have the wise blood.

Some interesting facts about Phil donahue. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Donahue

I'm sick of Bill O'Reilly. Shame on him. He was a loudmouth rather than a professional. He always wanted the last word. If Donahue tried to speak at all, he covered it all up with his loud mouth full of rhetoric. How disgusting. It's just like seeing a debate on religion between my mother and I. It's like she puts her fingers in her ears and starts singing "Amazing Grace" while I point out to her the historic evidence of the creation myth in more than one culture. Let me go vomit. If I had the money in the face of the gas prices I would be at the rally/protest.

I say bravo on the using h.264. Great decision.

I heard Billy's cousin walked away from a cushy job at the Paris Business Review to enlist...

War supporters like Bill O'reilly are truly getting desperate. As they frantically cling their chickenhawk claws to their cherished war, they know deep down that the tide is turning against their favor. I would venture to say that they are in their last throes.

Man, Falafel boy's head near exploded!

I think it's easy to dislike O'Reilly based on this clip. In fact I dislike him very much and did so before I saw this clip and will likely continue to do so for a very long time, but I respect him for playing the segment on his show in the first place. It shows that he's not all bad, so we can have some small sliver of hope.

I was surprised he played the interview.

Did anybody notice that when Phil said that Mrs Sheenan had already taken the hardest hit on (the nose?), Bill said "What?", as if expecting to promptly rebuke it and when Phil said "She lost her son", Bill said "Oh, that!", so matter of fact. He didn't even remember where she came from.

I upgraded (and had to load iTunes 5). I'm only clenching my gut a little because I worry how long it's going to take to boot my system from now on. (sigh)

As for Bill and Phil: I would have thought Phil had more class than to debate someone like Bill. It's pure entertainment...that's all.

The veneer is cracking, though. People aren't so sure 1900+ lives are worth a lame attempt at democracy. If the Iraqis want democracy let them show more concerted demonstrations for it.

I don't think there is any increase in booting time they are separate programs. I have my son try all this stuff on his PC and he's had no problems. You did know you can download a standalone version, didn't you?

"I heard Billy's cousin walked away from a cushy job at the Paris Business Review to enlist..."

ROFL! Is staying the course still even an option? Its over, the constitution didn't get Sunni approval are a likely to defeat the referendum, which will throw things into an even bigger crisis. Either things are going to dramatically improve or reach the point of no return of everything going to hell in the next few months.

hey :] just gotta say, love your site, come by here everyday..

billy boy there is what the rest of the world pictures when they think of americans nowadays - you guys should get him off the screen somehow.. let's make a better picture of what all y'all stand for. i know you are good people, it's just too bad about guys like him and bush...

as too quicktime 7... i tried it [pc-version] but had to uninstall it and go back to 6.5 apple has totally destroyed their best piece of software with 7.0 is my professional opinion. i can see they are trying hard but so far a very bad update indeed. i wish they had just implemented h.264 into their 6.5 version instead..

it's like when realplayer blew up and went off track... i hope apple wont take quicktime down the same road, i don't want microsoft to win through with wmv because of something silly like this...

Holy smokes that was great...Thx.

John Stewart should have been in the middle of that one. haha

Too bad Bill's head didn't explode....

First of all: QuickTime 7 H.264 works really nicely! :-) - Just in case some readers on older Macs or Wintels experience problems: VideoLAN is available for multiple platforms, plays QuickTime H.264 content, too, and has more moderate system requirements than Apple's own product.

On the subject itsself: Like Erik I am not really into U.S. talk shows, but while discussions on TV here in Europe are certainly not less controversial, I'd say there is a common sense that you let at least your opponent have his say.

After having watched quite a few excerpts of O'Reilly's TV discussions now, the only, but ruling pattern I recognize in his style of arguing is his omnipresent effort to hoot his counterpart down already after the second or third sentence. No matter whether you agree or disagree with his points, in my humbled opinion his obvious lack of good manners and a civilised behaviour would have set an end to his TV career in any European country immediately. - Why are U.S. conservatives not bothered by this bad style?

It is alwasy fun to hear O'Liarly get his mouth slapped. Figuratively, of course.

It was interesting that he basically said 'So, what?' regarding Sheehan losing a son but goes ballistic about his nephew or cousin. "That's my blood!"

The ringing hypocracy is most laughable in a dark sort of way.

I could only hear the exchange. I'm using the most recent version of QT for Windows. Not QT alt. can't get it to play more than sound.

Sort of a drag if it stays this way, the vids are my reason for coming to this great site.

Whoops, I was wrong. I did not have the most recent version of QT. It works fine for me now.

Would you geeks stop posting your tech problems (or go to slashdot). There are better things to talk about. Like why John Stewart rocks and why O'reilly is an ass-clown. BTW, why do O'reilly and Hannity always talk with a pen in their hand (do they take taking notes) ? At least, JS shows that all he does is doodle.

Christian, US right win nuts are like O'lie-ly, they find themselves in him and love him! He is playing them on TV.

Guess what?

F UCK BILLOW LIELLY........FUCK HIM

blah, blah, blah...I tuned out after about the first minute. I don't really care if the US goes to shit just so the majority of the people (well maybe not the majority, but those who voted for bush) get the shit they deserve.

I love how O'Reilly sets up the interview, suggesting that he really took it to Donahue. After watching it, I think O'Reilly -- like most Republicans -- needs to rethink his concept of victory, because Phil kicked his ass and made him look like the clown he is.

Phil good

QuickTime 7 actually breaks most Macintosh games released in the last five years, rendering them highly crash-prone. (A big example is Neverwinter Nights, which crashes out about once every half hour with QT7 -- but problems have also been reported with everything from Max Payne to World of Warcraft.)

If I want to play my games I cannot upgrade to QuickTime 7 ... just thought I would let you know that there is a cost to the upgrade you are trying to force on your viewers ... why not give downloaders a choice? The more people adopt QT7, the more bandwidth you will save.

Norm-

I agree with the poster above regarding giving downloaders a choice. I LOVE this site and would be very sad if I can't view your clips anymore.

I have a Mac with OS 9.2 and can't upgrade without upgrading VERY expensive design software - which I'm too broke to able to do for now.

And he didn't even cut Phil's mic when the heat poured on! Fucking amazing!

All the Win98 folks are video-less now... More... pressure... to... upgrade.

Ahh its fox what do you expect.

Man, Donahue rocks. Solid, and he can play the patriot game better than Billy. The new H.264 looks great.

Wow!! Thanks for posting that Donahue is solid! Thanks for posting !

When a man has faced blacks, jews and the KKK on the same stage in a debate about racism and lived to tell about it, pricks like Billy boy just dont scare him much I guess.

CB.

Bill O'Reilly is just a jackass. But I do get a great amount of entertainment out of watching him.

Donahue was good. Didn't stoop to O'Reilly's level.

Really enjoyed this clip -- thanks!

I support the right of Americans who oppose the Iraq war to express their dissent. Bush does, too.

Predictably, I sided with Bill more than Phil. But the snob in me prefers Phil's more genteel communication style. Bill comes off like a blustery blowhard.

(But Phil's "Billy-this, Billy-that" was as annoying as O'Reilly's erect finger.)

I think we need to finish the Iraq war and not pull out before we do. If we can't lead Iraq to freedom and constitutional democracy in a timely fashion (as it appears we can't)...because (for example) the Sunnis (Baathists) don't want to be governed by Shia (West-Iranians) -- then, let's just (re)-divide the country into three sovereign territories; Kurdistan in the north (they'd be thrilled), "Shiastan" in the south, and "Sunnistan" in the middle/triangle+Baghdad.

Maybe these three groups can't live together in freedom without the unifying fear of a ruthless dictator. If we separate them, maybe they can and we can leave. We could promise to defend their new sovereign borders just as we did Kuwait's as long as they behave like a U.S. ally rather than an enemy.

I understand your interest in having me upgrade to QT 7 so that you can upload smaller files. Unfortunately, upgrading to QT 7 would require me to get a new computer. (which could run the OS required to run QT 7.)

I would love to see O'Reilly debate recent politics, war, with Bill Clinton.

Good job PHIL! This was one of the few times i was able to sit through an entire segment of O'reilly (he does get props for airing this even if he perceived himself incorrectly as a victor of some sorts). He is generally nothing more than propaganda, and i wanted to add a few points here brought up in this discourse. When he went after Phil for "denegrating" the service of his nephew, that was completely off base...Phil was "denegrating" YOU Billy not your valiant yet perhaps misguided nephew...and he correctly made the point. RICH PEOPLE DON'T SEND THEIR OWN TO FIGHT THIS WAR. point made, good job phil...I did laugh loudly at the comment by O'reilly that he now does not think the war was such a good idea...HA! sorry Billy, you are simply not allowed that position at this juncture. nope no way, you pontificated too long, and too loudly for it. I like his dodge on the question of how long are we going to "stay the course"? My take on this is Phil missed an opportunity to further this a bit...How long are we going to stay there and watch our troops die, perhaps Iraq cannot support or does not want an American colonization, which is exactly what this is...we removed the guy who made THAT possible in the first place! Our guy...which was a nice point Phil got in...It seems you either have an strong fundemental Islamic anti-american government, or a brutal dictator in a political climate such as Iraq (India perhaps being a exception to this, though i doubt they have exactly the same dynamics?). all in all very nice job by Mr. Donahue, he is an eloquent statesmen and I am glad to have him debate as a "mouthpiece" for the left, he represents peaceful well thought discourse...two things have doubled over the last year...a perfect summary to the debate.

Donahue was great. He just kept hammering away and eventually O'Reilly actually gave up. O'Reilly really is different from other right wing talk show hosts. He's much more insecure. Unlike Hannity, Limbaugh or Savage it really hurts him when people call him an arrogant jerk and a right wing hack. Franken gets under his skin so badly, sometimes you'd swear he was going to cry. He responds either by yelling and turning off microphones or by curling up in a ball. He tried the first on Donahue, and then when Phil kept an even keel he reverted to the second.

Donahue whipped him good on this one. The very rare times I ever watch this worthless "O'Reilly Factor" I saw Phil bring it on to Billy boy. Look closely and you can see Billy-boy shaking.

Kudos to Phil. I would love to see Donahue back on TV or the radio again.
