Five Damn Days

K-Otix and others are not happy with Bush response
Texas hip-hop group K-Otix have released a song called "George Bush Does Not Care About Black People," playing off of Kanye West's now infamous outburst from a live Hurricane Katrina telethon (see "T.I., David Banner Get Behind Kanye's Bush Comments"). The group's two MCs rap over an instrumental of Kanye West's "Gold Digger," criticizing Bush throughout the song: "Five damn days, five long days/ And at the end of the fifth, he walkin' in like, 'Hey'/ Chillin' on his vacation, sittin' patiently/ Them black folks gotta hope, gotta wait and see/ If FEMA really comes through in an emergency/ But nobody has a sense of urgency."

lol not the biggest fan of rapish stuff, but i like this one!

New news about those british.

They were handed over to militia by the police. wtf.

Wow, this is good. Moving and hard hitting, straight to the point. You don't have to be a young urban dude to get 'into' it. It gets you.

Re the British commandos. The last I heard, the Brits had driven tanks into the Iraqi police station and and taken their guys out.

Powerful

the funny part about that kanye west bit was the look on michael myers face as he isn't quite sure what to do! i'm glad that it went out there before it could be erased from the show, like it was for the west coast people.

I'm not sure about Mike Myers reaction. Kanye West was on Ellen and he said he told Mike that he was going to ad lib some stuff. After hearing that that, I looked at the footage again and I don't know if Myers just wasn't prepared for Kanye to stop at that point or if the reaction was to what Kanye said - maybe a combination of both.

Chris Tucker's expression was pretty funny, even more than Myers. He was the next celebrity right after. Cant even really explain it. I thought Kanye said he told Myers and Tucker that he would be ad libbing.

I agree, I'm not a big rap fan either but in this case, it's very powerful!

Oh this is fantasitic. I love it. Thanks for posting this. Excellent!

K-Otix was most excellent. Where can we get a HD copy?

There was a torrent at theblacklantern.com last I checked

This is what music and journalism should be about - saying what needs to be said but what everyone else is afraid to.

Why is it based on an "outburst" Norm. Sounded more like a premeditated scolding to me.

The response to Katrina seems eerily familiar to the response of Hurricane Andrew some 14 years ago where it took four days to respond. I don't think it's a race issue, since the victims of Andrew were mostly white. Class issue would be a little more fitting. However all this can be attributed to having really, really dumb people at the top.

Suprised they didn't use the 'Bush flippin the bird' video clip in this one. Woulda been perfect.

Excellent!!!

Off-topic, sorry, but is anyone else having bad problems with Quicktime audio & video being out of sync? I tried searching the site for anyone referencing this issue, but found nothing.

If you like that, then you're gonna LOVE this rap video about NOLA. It's called "George Bush Don't Like Black People".

It's speaks truth to power. Watch it.

Well, it's a different version of the video anyway!

Still no mention of jails which were simply opened rather than attempting to relocate the inmates? Inmates running rampant is a far better explanation of violence than the black folk.

Damn cool video.

That's a Kanye West song BTW...and fairly new. K-0tix changed the lyrics.

I bet Bush was to blame for that too!

In the 1995 Chicago heat wave, over 700 people died. The majority of the deaths were poor & African American. I'm sure there were PLENTY of gut-wrenching images of dead bodies being removed from over-cooked buildings.

Say... how come the media didn't go bonkers over the Chicago heat wave? How come the federal government wasn't responsible? How come Bill Clinton wasn't called upon to apologize? How come the senior senator from Illinois didn't threaten to punch Clinton in the face?

Say... if BUSH was president and the exact same thing happened... would the media reaction be the same?

SURE it would.

Why not?

Because it is significantly more difficult to predict a heat wave's extremity than it is to prepare for a hurricane that VISIBLE ON NATIONAL TV (RADAR).

I don't recall the details but I am certain we did not wait 5 DAMN DAYS to respond to the disaster.

Dear GOP: WHERE WAS YOUR PRESIDENT?!?!! HOW DO YOU COWER BEHIND HIM AND TRY TO MAINTAIN YOUR IMAGE OF THIS OMNIPOTENT POWER?!!? YOUR A DISGRACE.

DESTROY THE REPUBLICANS. THEIR TIME HAS...EXPIRED

GOOD DAY

(sorry had to get that off my chest) applause

PS

GEORGE BUSH DOESNT GIVE A F* about BLACK PEOPLE.123.121.4.1541

The continued back-up vocals are really moving.

First of all the response was too slow to the Katrina disaster, but everytime someone posts the delay gets longer, when did the leveys give tuesday? when did the feds show up wednesday, I may be off by a day but it was 2 days at most not 5. Still 2 days too long in my opinion, but no need to exagerate.

As far as the heat wave.......uh yeah they are predictable ever heard of a weather forcast? I lived in Chicago during the heatwave, you would turn on the weather everyday and the 5-7 day forecast would say the same thing.......HEAT! Where was the federal goverment? Yeah, the federal goverment didn't wait 5 days, try about 10 years and counting, because they never came, the local goverment botched the whole thing and the feds didn't step in one bit. Where was the outrage?

I'm no right winger per se, I voted for Gore in 2000 it's just time for people to stop with the rhetoric, and start taking steps to fix things.

and how can we fix anything if the ones to blame are not held responsible.

Love it! Great music! and Great lyrics! This guy is right on target with Bush's response to Katrina.

I think the 5 days thing only refers to the President's visit, which is true.

do you people actually think before you talk? people of new orleans decided to live below sea level being only protected by the levees. they knew what they were getting into when they moved there, they knew the possibility of what could happen, just so happens it did. and ofcourse your all brainwashed by the b.s. on tv that you watch and hear on the news, by the musicians and actors that i can't understand that you would actually believe a word they say. it's called grabbing the spotlight. besides, it don't matter who was the president, the same devastation would have happened, 1,000s of people would be dead, they'd still be struggling for food, water and power. the democrats just have you all hyped up about president bush being an idiot that you don't even think for yourselves for a change. plus new orleans was a dump anyways, the most corrupt city in the nation. it's a shame they got hit twice like they did, but come on, are you gonna blame the president for what hurricane katrina and rita has done, they are natural disasters, you can't practice disaster plans and major disasters like this, it's unfortunate that it takes a disaster to learn from the mistakes. kind of like you don't get stoplights at a busy intersection until a deadly accident occurs. get the picture.
