Dear George

Michale Moore's Open Letter to George Bush
Dear Mr. Bush:
Any idea where all our helicopters are? It's Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted. Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag.

Also, any idea where all our national guard soldiers are? We could really use them right now for the type of thing they signed up to do like helping with national disasters. How come they weren't there to begin with?
Last Thursday I was in south Florida and sat outside while the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed over my head. It was only a Category 1 then but it was pretty nasty. Eleven people died and, as of today, there were still homes without power. That night the weatherman said this storm was on its way to New Orleans. That was Thursday! Did anybody tell you? I know you didn't want to interrupt your vacation and I know how you don't like to get bad news. Plus, you had fundraisers to go to and mothers of dead soldiers to ignore and smear. You sure showed her!
I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don't let people criticize you for this -- after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike?
And don't listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers' budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn't cut the money to fix those levees, there weren't going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them -- BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ!
On Day 3, when you finally left your vacation home, I have to say I was moved by how you had your Air Force One pilot descend from the clouds as you flew over New Orleans so you could catch a quick look of the disaster. Hey, I know you couldn't stop and grab a bullhorn and stand on some rubble and act like a commander in chief. Been there done that.
There will be those who will try to politicize this tragedy and try to use it against you. Just have your people keep pointing that out. Respond to nothing. Even those pesky scientists who predicted this would happen because the water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting hotter and hotter making a storm like this inevitable. Ignore them and all their global warming Chicken Littles. There is nothing unusual about a hurricane that was so wide it would be like having one F-4 tornado that stretched from New York to Cleveland.
No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with this!
You hang in there, Mr. Bush. Just try to find a few of our Army helicopters and send them there. Pretend the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are near Tikrit.
Yours,
Michael Moore

Everything has been misplaced, now the EU is donating it's emergency oil supplies with the US (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4207492.stm), not to sound unsolidarious, because I would understand and support shipments of food, water, temporary shelters and medicins, which are the true emergencies, but $5/gallon is not an emergency, that's a good day for us accross the pond! (which btw, has made Euros take efficiency, alternative energies and global warming more seriously, you guys may wanna consider it) And besides, ExxonMobil last year made 28 Billion of pimping Iraq's bloodied oil for American consumers... WTF?! Why not ask for that oily-kind of solidarity from Exxon's stock brokers?

Misplacement everywhere...

Let me know when Moore shows his fat crack up to help without a video camera in his hand. The man is worthless, all he is ever able to do is scream in a room full of other screamers. I would really like to know, (seriously) what he has done that has really made a difference? I mean he no doubt had that girl down in crawford on his payroll and let me tell you, that really changed things, i mean those troops come home in like what 3 days? All that energy for a cause that could never be changed, only if she and the rest both pro war and war haters could have used that money to rent some buses a few days ago and got people out of harm's way. Yet I realize none of them would have gotten as much t.v. coverage. This is what I talk about, so much could be done, if so much was not wasted on either sides agenda. Shameful shameful day!!

Say, George - guess you were waiting for a way to stuff your friends' pockets fuller before you took any action regarding Katrina:

Patmos,

You're delusional, or is just the brainwashing you give yourself every day taking over? BTW, Moore has done more than you or me ever did for the Columbine kid ("The man is worthless"?), and he's got the guts to talk like a US citizen - something that the entire Senate doesn't have the guts to. You haven't risen to any of these challenges.

And WTF has Cindy Sheenan or anything you're rambling on has to do with what was in the letter? Did you read anything out of it? The first line? Or just you start spewing the "guilt by assocoation" non-sense after you've just read the name of the letter's autor? And you're utterly missing the point: this is not about Moore, Sheenan, you, or Bush. It's about a city left to fend for itself, as if we're living two millenia ago, in Asia Minor.

I have so much grief and anger for New Orleans, that I cannot express - (I have neither relatives, nor friends living there). This is NOT to be happening in the UNITED (?!) States of America. Isn't a shame for all of us, and for those who had any powre to prevent some of what happened (elected by us), who just sat in front of the TV set waiting for the biggest reality TV show ever to air. I guess our expectations were fulfilled.

Peace.

Patmos,

Help me out here. I'm intrigued by what motivates people, who are obiously conservative in their political beliefs, to visit and comment on blogs that are very left wing in nature.

A) Do you just get off on confrontation?

B) Do you honestly believe that your comments will change the way that people think?

C) Are you on some sort of crusade?

D) Are you just an A-grade asshole?

E) All of the above

Cotard,

Two reasons why i leave comments.

My freedom of speach that so many of you hide behind.

Number 2, I could give a rats crack about what you people think of me.

Peace!!

Oh and by the way rope, I am doing nothing more than what everyone else is doing in this room. You see if I would have said.... Look at what Bush has done in the last 2 days, you would say, oh but look at all the other crap he has not done. I do the same thing with Moore, you say he did more than anyone of the Columbine Kid, I say, just like you, look at all the other he has not done or accomplished. The problem is, is that when someone shows the other side of who many support in this room all that I get in return is not a conversation but a cussin and told to go F* off, like that is realy mature.

My question is still on the table.... What good, what good did Moore's vidoe do? The president was re-elected, what good did this Cindy lady do, the troops are still in Iraq. The question is, why didn't both sides of the table, say, you know what, let's use our resources to rent buses and pick up trucks and anything else to get as many people out of Katrina's path that we can. They could have SAVED lives, yet they chose to stand in front of a t.v. camera. I don't see any difference in that, than the shame of George Bush sitting at Crawford and not doing anything.

I know it pisses you off that someone has an opinion different than you, so I will expect your "mature" attitude, the one where you use all the little dirty words.

If someone could ever really have a conversation with me like french fries, then you will see, I am not a Bush supporter, and I am not Clinton supporter and I am not a Reagan supporter and I am not a JFK supporter. I just ask questions and make comments.

Patmos, You asked what Moore did good with his documentaries, and I think that I have touched on that. Remember that initially you said he's "worthless" with his movies, then you kind'a admit he did something (good?), but point to "all the other he has not done or accomplished". Besides the childish accusation in itself (nobody solves everything), I find it positive that you negociate facts between posts, but you'll have to re-negociate judgments as well, to be fair to your own line of argumentation. Your question should be off the table: Moore helped a kid, and uttered his opinions publicly. That should be more than enough in a democracy - you don't expect him to change US with a movie, the same way you don't expect all the Hollywood movies to accomplish it. I'm not pissed at finding different opinion than mine. Opinions are to be challenged and changed when appropriate.

Peace.

Let me get on the same page though... We agree they (republican & democrat, war haters, war lovers) could have actually saved lives with the money they spent on the big ole rally thing that saved the war in Iraq. I mean I just want to be clear on the fact they could have folded up their tents, put down their posters, loaded up and went to these cities and actually made progress about something, they could have used the money to rent buses to help evacuate the area... is that what we agree on, because no one has made comment about that?

Oh and the thing about Moore not being able to save the world, but just touching one life, I give you that, however, if I am not mistaken Bush has touched more than one life in the last 6 years of President, ( i can hear you now, but look at how many lives he has taken, yet that is not your point of argument, it was clearly on that Michael Moore touched a life.) so does the fact that Bush has touched lives for good not count for anything? I mean grant it, he has not done a Moore video or changed a Columbine kid (that we know of), and not only that.... he has pardoned a turkey every year during Thanksgiving. I know there are some vegetarians out there that will think that is noble of him.

Word to your Mother! or is that Peace Out!!! I forget.

If I remember correctly, it was GW who was elected as President, so the responsibility and power to mobilize the necessary aid (and blame for doing NOTHING while people were dying) falls to him. Remind me--when Michael Moore was elected? I must have been asleep, or maybe on a month-long vacation on a ranch somewhere.

Why does MM have to be so horribly sarcastic? I'm a bleeding liberal and I'm constantly embaressed of the way he handles himself, even when I agree with what he's trying to say in principal.

sigh

It makes it so much harder to have a real political discussion with open-minded people who have different opinions then me.

Michael Moore is a dripping, diseased tampon crammed in the leaky vagina of 'liberal' America. This fat fuck constantly mouths off when it will get his name in the paper. But ... quick ... how much money is Michael Moore giving to the disaster relief?

ZERO.

Fat asshole.

Any person or organization looking to place blame may look no further than the biggest bitch this side of Mikey Moores residence, that bitch is Mother Nature. Yes, the waters of the world are getting warmer. Yes, scientist will always speak the doomsday scenarios to play out, leading to the finger pointers whining and making a horrid situation worse. Just remember what hit America, and quit trying to hit America while its down. It was a Frickin Catergory 5 hurricane, not a nuclear bomb. Learn from our mistakes and grow stronger.

Joe, how is it that you know if or how much someone has donated? You don't. You're pulling it out of your ass. You're doing exactly what your ilk constantly accuse MM of doing.

This isn't about MM--it's about GW and his good ol' boys completely failing the people of New Orleans.

What is wrong with you people???
