I have never seen Carlin so pissed off. Even in his shows he wasn't as "opinionated" as he was on that show. He was furious, and wasn't swallowing anything Mr. Bullsh*t at the other end of the table was spewing.
Norm, great job keeping clips on your site for those of us cable-less folks. But the poster above intrigues me...any chance of loading another segment demonstrating Carlin at his best?
Who were all the guests on the show?
Thanks for posting the clip. Some of those cards were quite funny.
I heartily agree with Bailey: Some Carlin clips would be great!
And while I'm at it, Norm: a thousand thanks for everything you collect and present at this blog - but I guess you already know we love you, especially at this time!
Yes! Barbra Bush is really that bad. If you have ever met her in person you would agree. She is very rude and nasty.
Bill Maher and George Carlin...hmmmm. I agree with everything they say except for the part beginning where they open their mouths until the part where they shut them again.
Single-minded aping of Bush-Bashing rhetoric from the left got old as early as 2001! Get a new gig! Evolve or something!
Hi Joe.
Let me try and understand where you're coming from...
You call what goes on here "Bush bashing". How very Rove-ian of you. See, according to this wonderful talking point, Democrats/liberals aren't simply putting forth rational criticisms of Bush's policies, governing, and possible wrongdoings. No- THEY'RE BASHING! Because they are evil and full of hate. Of course, during the 90s, when Republican Congress members (and that tricky ol' liberal media) were making mountains out of mole hills trying to find the next big Clinton scandal (Whitewater! Travelgate! They let people stay in the Lincoln Bedroom! Filegate! Clinton got a haircut at the airport!), well that wasn't 'bashing', that was just people trying to hold their President accountable. Which is fine. Except when it's a Republican. Then it's bashing.
GLAD WE CLEARED THAT UP!
Thanks for your detailed and intelligent defense of what your beloved President Bush is doing. You, sir, as a shining example of us all!
Thanks for providing all of these videos for us overseas people!
Rather than Bush, let's pick on simple minded Joe. He suggests we "evolve". Love to, but according to your poltics Joe, we are intelligently designed.
Unfortunately, Bill Maher's jokes are becoming just a little angrier and angrier... I agree that the Bush crime family should all be tried for war crimes and then disposed of by Pat Robertson's cronies, but it is all beyond humour now.
We all know that Bush is a crook and liar. What can we DO about it? The scumbag neocons don't respond to ridicule; maybe they would respond to force?
Joe, I thought you winguts dont believe in evolution?? I guess you need something to explain why you are why you are.
Thank you for the clips for us, poor guys with no cables
Norm, Mate - Thanks for the clip - would love to see Carlin's comments. Thanks for all you do - to see the "reel real news" is good here in the land of Oz
Yes, please, I want to see the Carlin part of the show, please, pretty please.
Re Jon and others being so angry, gosh, I wonder what they are so upset about. I mean, what's so upsetting about the whole country going straight to hell for the benefit of a few rich pigs?
many of these politicians on the right or left are rotten SOB's. Through my time in the military and working for these evil goverment contractors I have had conversations with quite a few people who have had face to face contact with many politicans. A close friend of mine has worked with the secret service for over 10 years, and said it is common knowledge that Barb Bush is just plain mean. The nicest person tie- Bill Clinton, said that rather you agree with him or not he makes you feel like you are best buddies, used to come down to the kitchen some nights and shoot the shit, said when ol cankles (Hillary) showed up that his face turned sour and he headed the other way. Had the same to say about Reagan. Just nice people, or made you feel like the were anyway.
Said the worst was Hillary, that she once told one of his guys upon being greeted with a hello in the morning "don't ever fucking talk to me unless I address you first" Also said she was pretty liberal with the N word and various other derogitory terms for different nationalities, made fun of the way jesse jackson spoke and such.
I could go on and on about Kerry, Gore, Dole, Cheney, he has stories about them all.
Anyway, I almost can't believe what came out of her mouth, how f'n ignorant. I thought GW's quote about building Lott's house was also moronic, I mean who writes this crap? I may not agree 100% with you guys on how much GW is to blame for the whole Katrina situation (I'm with you to some extent), but there is no question his lack of empathy after the fact is astounding
Barbara Bush is a real piece of work. She's the one who called Geraldine Ferraro a bitch in the 1984 election, you may recall.
Also, her comments about the first Iraq war: http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/barbara.asp
there is no racism in the babara bush commment. Elitist, SURE - but racist, no.
The impoverished evacuees will enjoy a higher standard of living in Texas than they had previously enjoyed in New Orleans - is simply what she was saying. This same comment is true of many of the impoverished of Indonesia and Sri Lanka who were the recipients of aid and relocation as a result of the tsunami.
It is a pity the Maher has tried to create this implication of racism in order to incite some controversy. The more outspoken he becomes, the less measured and intelligent is his commentary.
More pitiful still is that onegoodmove seems to be swinging fast in the direction of partisan bias and blinkered judgment JUST to make a snide splash. The site was better when you stuck to reasonable mudslinging, rather than picking up on every opportunity.
In a recent clip Maher himself was far more guilty of the "subconscious" racism he is criticising. Recall his assertion that blacks are prone to looting and being late.

Budd Denagen:
I think it's sad that you agree with Barbara Bush and defend her comments. Are you racist or is it classism? I don't know and it doesn't matter what you call it. It's just plain wrong.
Those evacuees have lost their jobs, homes, furniture, photo albums, pets, etc. Some are separated from their relatives and until just recently their children (thank god). Some of them have family and friends that died.
You show an utter complete lack of empathy. I'm just sure being crowded into a stadium in another state filled with thousands of others and scared out of your wits of what will become of you and your family is just so fun it makes up for all the bad they left behind. I'm sure they're living it up , enjoying that higher standard of living you were talking about.
It's very apparent that you look down your nose at poor people, who knows maybe just people in general. Just remember people who put themselves up so high above others fall the hardest.
Let your conscience be your guide (if you have one).
Jimmy, i was focusing on ONE SPECIFIC POINT.
That being; was Barbara Bush being racist?
I don't defend her comments. But I do say that they are not racist. Sure they were "classist". But America is "classist". Those who succeed are "living the dream" - those who don't are tolerated but not protected.
If there was racism involved in the New Orleans disaster it was the systemic, pan-American racism that affects all levels of society, in all states.
So don't feel "sad" that I "defend" Barbara Bush. I don't defend her. But labelling her racist when she wasn't being so is just a cheap shot.
My lack of empathy? Again, I was addressing a SINGLE ISSUE - Barbara Bush's racism or not. I was making no comment of the obvious disaster that struck. So don't try to make out that I was making a heartless comment on the misery that people are suffering - perhaps that is your cheap device to distract from the fact that Barbara Bush spoke the obvious too plainly.
Perhaps you are writing from the core of onegoodmove.org ... thus are trying to send out some smoke to cloud the issue. This site is getting sloppy. Intelligent, fair and focused argument is becoming harder to find on these pages.
Just to spell it out for ya -
Prior to Katrina, and for decades, 30% of the population in New Orleans have been living below the poverty line.
These people could not afford to leave when the evacuation warnings were issued.
America was perfectly happy that these people should live in such squalor. Foreign wars can be waged, billion dollar enhancements to wealthy cities can be invested in and military spending can go through the roof. But investing in New Orleans was last on the list. Why?
The systemic racism of America.
Katrina just forced people to watch it on TV, after they'd preferred to ignore it.
There you go again trying to justify it. Isn't there a speck of humanity in that coal black heart.
You say your not defending that idea. Then answer this: Do you believe that people who lost their homes, jobs and loved ones lives are now "enjoying a higher standard of living"?
Yes or No.
Let you conscience be your guide (if you have one)
Chicken.
Let your conscience be your guide (if you have one)
I wish I could see this clip but the picture isnt showing up and I don;t know how to view it. any ideas how to fix this??
Kitty, What browser and what operating system are you using? Exactly what do you mean there is not picture is it just a blank space. Send me an email and I'll try and help
Wow... Budd, you really don't get it. You're not defending some "other" side of the issue here -- you just DON'T get it.
Say one day you lost your house and everything in it, and your kids were suddenly killed, your job gone, then you were crammed into a crowded and filthy sports stadium with almost no food and water, watching people die around you and then left to rot for days.
You think that a week later, a hotel room and a hamburger will make everything better?
You'll probably respond with something like "well, they were poor before the storm." Please, save it Budd. Your comments are just as disgusting as Barbara Bush's.
Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity over humanity, nothing exceeds most of the criticisms made on the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well-warmed, and well-fed.
-Herman Melville
My point is - Why are people in America living below the poverty line? Do you still refuse to address this?
The most disgusting fact of all here is that these people scraped out an existence below the poverty line before the hurricane. That FACT seems to be comfortably IGNORED by the likes of Jimmy and Anon. If you cannot acknowledge the systemic racism in America then it will never be fixed.
I expect you will ignore it. It is an uncomfortable truth. The nation regarded these people as not worth protecting. New Orleans was well known as being a sitting duck for a catastrophe such as this, but it was deemed by the powerful and the wealthy that installing adequate defences was not a project worth pursuing.
Yet, now that the horse has bolted and the predictable disaster has struck, there is a sudden clamour of people "disgusted" at those who suggest that these people should never have been so poor as not to be able to evacuate. I urge you not to shoot the messenger because you don't like the message.
If you are not just jumping on the bandwagon, where was your voice in the decades before this disaster?
It isn't the systemic racism that keeps people poor, if that were the case there would be no poor white people. The thing in America that is most repsponsible for there being poor people and the differences in classes of people is capitalism and greed. While I 100% agree that racism or prejudice is still a problem in this country the thing that leads the powerrfull people in this country to take advantage of the poor is not hate for a certain race, but greed. The levys in New Orleans have been a known problem for 20+ years. Why did Bush not allocate the money to get them completely upgraded to withstand a cat 5 hurrincane? Because he didn't like black people, or because he could put that money into another project that would benifit his rich friends and somewhere down the line himself? Why did the original GW do the same thing? Why did Clinton make the same cuts only to give Teddy Kennedy 15 billion to bury some old highways in his home state? Did they do this because of hatered of black people or greed? I think greed.
As far as Barbara Bush, she's not a nice person, I wouldn;t piss on her if she were on fire, but I didn't find her comments to be racist, just elitests.
I'm no fan of the Bush family, but this old lady's comments have been taken completely out of context all over the place.
Joe: Single-minded aping of Bush-Bashing rhetoric from the left got old as early as 2001!
Hasn't defending this idiot gotten old yet?
