Did the Pat apologist say "sexual" accidently? Freudian?
pat robertson is a tool and a charlatan, VIVA CHAVEZ!!
The US funded the the 2002 Venezeulan coup, which was the topic of the documentary The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.
FAIR, the media watchdog, then explained: "U.S. Papers Hail Venezuelan Coup as Pro-Democracy Move."
One important point was when Pat Robertson cited the Monroe Doctrine. "This is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen. We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced." This is how we treat the other countries in the Americas. His comments didn't come out of nowhere, but is grounded in consistent US policy. But there is too much public attention on the US's foreign policy and oil at the moment, for there to be easy military aggression.
Pat Robertson...
And another "culture war" icon turns into a murdering, kidnapping, lying Talibaptist right before our eyes.
The Daily Show is absolutely brilliant. "Homo-bortion City: Sexy Edition" lol
Here are somore more choice quotes from Marion Gordon Robertson, usually known as Pat Robertson (born March 22, 1930).

Well, I tried, here. Can't help but have a little fun with it.
The monroe doctrine, manifest destiny etc etc is bullshit. Venezuela, Canada, Mexico, Cuba are separate countries and separate jurisdictions.
If the US were to start knocking off foreign heads of state, how long would it take for the world to completely de-stabilize? more than it is?
Homobortion city was hilarious.
One thing I find odd about all the coverage of Pat's comment is that it so rarely strays into any actual discussion of Venezuela, as such. It's all an incestuous US media orgy. "A US commentator said something about Venezuela! Gasp! Let's hear MORE about this commentator!"
Of course it's natural that we would want to deny the facts of the matter. If it's ugly to consider a TV star merely suggesting the assassination of Chavez, imagine how we'd all feel to find out that our government has ACTUALLY been plotting to violently overthrow him, and furthermore that they're doing so at the behest of corporate interests which are willfully maintaining large parts of the world in poverty.
Heaven forbid the US government would interfere in the sovereign politics of South America, eh? Good thing this will all blow over in a week and everything will be back to, ah, usual.

Actually, they already did. Ask Chileans and others about it.
Robertson reminds me of Bill Frist -- "I didn't say Terry Shiavor could be rehabilitated". Actually, yes you did. -Ah
funny how he said "we don't need another two hundred billion dollar war" as opposed to "we dont need more of our soldiers dying"
fucking asswipe, i swear!
RD,
destabilization makes it easier for the US to control the world
Boy, I just learned this turns out to be among the saner things Pat Robertson has said...
Mungojelly,
Of course the media conversations on Pat Robertson have not focused on Venezuela. Just as the media conversations on Cindy Sheehan shed no light on our justifications for war, or any of the other messages she is trying to get across. The media is more interested in setting up bland oppostions (in Sheehan's case, mothers of dead soldiers who say 'I disagree with Cindy') in order to create the illusion of balance and debate. It doesn't matter if the opposition has no solid counter-argument. Really, they've avoided debate completely, by not paying attention to pro and anti war arguments, and to bring it back, they haven't payed attention to what the hell is going on in Venezuela?. To watch the mainstream TV news is to stay uninformed. I will now step off my shoddy soap box.
How was the interview with Trent Lott? I'm surprised it hasn't been posted here.
Well, the guy said it... why do the others even try? Friends, that was one skewering that Pat Robertson took there - not that he's such a hard target...
