Cindy Sheehan on Real Time with Bill Maher

When Maher asked her if she didn't get satisfaction from George Bush, would she consider going over his head to Cheney or Rumsfeld, she replied: "You know what Bill, I have gone over his head, I've gone to the American people. And we employ him, he's our employee."

but but....she is anti-war....that must mean she's anti-america. jesus christ on a stick am I tired of these conservative cock holes.

I'm glad that somebody is protesting Bush's war and getting attention doing it, but I wish it was someone else. Someone who knows the difference between something suspicious (like the Downing Street memo) and proven fact. Someone who doesn't claim to know for a fact that the president's motivation is not what he says it is. She can't even acknowledge that if an Iraqi democracy somehow emerges from the ashes it will be some compensation for her loss. Nah, screw those foreigners.

I think she's brilliant and brave. As a mother, I cannot imagine how she copes with her loss -- and she lost her son because of the ignorant, careless, misuse of our military. She is spot on. My sister is in the military... I come from a military family. And we adamantly oppose this war. Her loss would not be "redeemed" by some form of democracy in Iraq in 50 years because that is NOT why we went there. That is a LIE. And we have no way of knowing whether Iraq wouldn't have evolved into a peaceful democracy or some other form of govt. in 50 years. We will never know what could have been accomplished peacefully because we did not try peace, we went straight to an ill-conceived, poorly planned, and chaotically executed war. We have needlessly squandered lives -- our own and those of Iraqis.

God bless Cindy Sheehan and those that are supporting her. Let's hope we grow to the millions.

wow, Cindy comes off so great. Courageous, respectful, and even funny. The Pat Robertson thing was hilarious.

Good stuff.

I like what you said drunkenhausfrau.

I support you Cindy.

MILF......

I think she should have at least acknowledged that a peaceful democratic Iraq would be some compensation for her loss.

I think there might be a problem where people on the left in the USA might get into the trap of seeming anti humanitarian intervention. I think that's not a good idea, as it makes them seem heartless, and selfish.

Sure, be against the war in Iraq. But don't be against international involvement when it really is necessary.

How would that be some compensation for her loss?

As it has been said, her son died for a LIE. Maybe it would be compensation if the reason we were there in the first place was because we needed to "create a democracy in Iraq"...because then she could say that at least her son died dying for some sort of cause. Instead her son, and nearly 1,900 others have died for a stupid lie.

I really don't think that Iraqi's getting to vote is going to make her say, "well it was a noble cause that Casey died for." But who knows. Maybe she'll change her mind.

well there are ok americans too, thanks cindy.

"You ruined his vacation!"

Maher is absolutely right and I Sheehan is a smart cookie to realize that every day that goes by that Bush does not meet with her, it helps her cause and furthers her message.

I really don't think that Iraqi's getting to vote is going to make her say, "well it was a noble cause that Casey died for."

Nobody said anything about noble causes and the Bushies aren't off the hook if the eventual outcome of the war is positive. It just seems narrow-minded and selfish to say that if millions of people finally achieve self-determination it's worthless because her son died.

Maybe she doesn't really feel that way, but the fact that she said it is what I don't like about her. I see her kind of activism as the polar opposite of the nutty right wingers who cling to the stock arguments and rhetoric, rejecting all ideas that don't fit into the framework even if they defy reason.

The best thing about her, is that she is well spoken, but genuine. Like the line she used about "going over the president's head". I thought.. hmm could have delivered that better, that was a money line, and could have gotten a large round of applause. But wait! She's NOT a politician, she's not in it for the applause. There is a real voice there.

No on said shit about demnocracy as a reason for this war at the beginning. If they had the American people would not have supported it. Democracy was about the 10th reason they came up with after their other excuses crumbled. O say this to everyone who doesn't like cindy Sheehan: Send your kids to Iraq to fight or shut your mouth.

to everyone who doesn't like cindy Sheehan: Send your kids to Iraq to fight or shut your mouth.

Heh. Nice one. It's about as enlightened as: "You are either with us, or you are with the terrorists". Thanks for opening up the discussion.

She is quite smart, and quick witted it seems. Thats enough to get people excited and fall behind her to support her.

ray, shut your pie hole

love mom

Okay then. My mistake for thinking this place was for talking about ideas, not for cheerleading. And for thinking lefties are generally more open-minded than the right.

Yeah, it was your mistake Ray. C'mon. People sit here and make fun of the conservatives for cheerleading, but it's different when liberals do it. You're supposed to disagree with those damn Republicans, not the Democrats.

I mean, screw actually discussing ideas. Just disagree with the other side already.

Some of you seem to be missing the point of Cindy Sheehan. She is not a politician, performer or reporter - she is a mother speaking her voice. Her arguments may not always be the most convincing but if our government and media would start telling the truth on a regular basis we wouldn't need to rely on the Downing Memo or other such reaches for facts. She's no less informed than the majority of America about what is going on in our government just like our government seems to have been uninformed about Iraq. The difference is she is talking openly - they are stonewalling.

Why is it that she is supported by them who hate war, yet do nothing to actually bring about any kind of peace.

Have you shown kindness to your enemy, or have you only put more wood on the fire of prejudice?

Have you done something other than goto this ladies website and say something about a president, or have you actually not bitched for one minute so that you tax dollars can help protect our airports and borders?

Hey, they are just questions, no pressure.

THe Question Man poses some serious questions... unfortunately none of them intended.

Why do we go to this "ladies" website? Because there is valid information discussed here as opposed to most mainstream news which in it's efforts to battle the "leftist" reputation has started speaking for the right.

Why do we hate war? I pose you with a question - why do you love war? No one in their right mind is an advocate of mass killing. People are against THIS war because it is a sham.

About the tax dollar thing - no matter how much anyone is for or against this thing - all of our tax dollars are going toward it instead of properly protecting the homeland and going after the real threats. Did you know that a good prtion of Iraq's insurgents are supplied by Saudi Arabians? Why is it whenever there is a massive violent anti-American movement the Saudi's are the support. And yet a "solid ally" in the "War on Terror."

You need to start asking questions to yourself "Question Man".

No pressure though.

Dear Why,

I think that why there is so much hate between the republicans and the dem's is the fact that you did not even once try to answer my questions. You took the defensive and tried to make me look like an idiot.

The truth that is seen here is the fact that you can't answer those questions. Because you are just a voice, not a person.

A person would have said.... You know it is a valid question, what have i done? Then they would have asked their fellow men, what can we do? You chose to be a voice, and as you have seen in every election sense JFK, a voice has never won a war or held the office of president. It is only won by them, both democrat and republican that have become a person.

The problem today is not do we have the passion, it is we lack the people. People that will say, I will make it better. I will change my enviroment and attitude and actually put action to something, so that the few people that are in my life, will have a changed enviroment and attitude.

So don't try to be-little me with your lack of knowledge, because you speak to a fellow member of the "I hate war club" & "Let peace roll on, like an 18 wheeler east bound - e - down" or however the hell it goes.

I am not insulted by your rudeness, I am just embarassed for who you actually think you are.

No pressure!

Hey, Question Man: you're wasting your breath. The true sign that these self-proclaimed liberal people - including Sheehan, who is loving her moment in the spotlight - want something they know is not possible BECAUSE they know it's not possible. They demand something they know can't happen: the immediate withdrawal of our troops from Iraq. It's an irrational, stupid, and pointless demand. That's why they make it their focus. Because if they had to make rational or thought-out statements, demands, or requests, they would have to think. And it's so much easier to make a picket sign with a glib saying than to think.

The facts are known. Yes, we were lied to in order for this war to happen. But these 'liberals' who claim to love life reveal their racism and hypocrisy when they say 'bring the troops home now!'. Everybody knows that if US troops left Iraq this moment - if it was even tactically feasible - that the place would descend into chaos. The people fighting us there would claim it as a victory and overwhelm the majority of peaceful people living in the area, creating another brutal Islamic state with deep anti-US sentiment and a victory on record.

Brilliant idea, hippies. Peace and love! Don't bother thinking about what you're saying.

We cut and ran in the first gulf war and that was heralded as a huge success for Bush Sr. Now those who think we should stay out of Iraq are labeled traitors. No one that I can think of on the left believes that Iraq is going to be peaceful if we cut and run now... but few people believe it will be peaceful under the current leadership that appears to be blundering most of the process of building a nation. As we are repeatedly reminded, "there is progress being made" and they've finally put someone in charge who seems to have a clue (Khalilzad), but even a lot of people on the right realize that Iraq is not turning into a democracy, it is being polarized and while every human with a heart would like to see Iraq remain stable, the facts as the majority of the world sees them prove that under our administrations guidance that isn't going to happen.

If we really want to win the war on terrorism lets begin going after the causes of terrorism and not wage an idological war about governance.

As for the people of Iraq, I don't know how people who condone bombing Iraq back into the stone age can claim to have respect for their lives.

The first Bush told the Iraqis to stand up against Saddam then left them at his mercy. Unfortunately the second has created an ever bigger mess and it's not only Iraqis who are in danger now, it is American soldiers. Unless this current administration starts proving it's competence in foriegn affairs (look at their tact with N. Korea, Venezuela and Iran - we seem to be hated more every day thank to thier half-hearted diplomacy) I don't see how we can support their war in Iraq. Either prove they can fix the mess or lets figure out an exit strategy.

'Either prove they can fix the mess or lets figure out an exit strategy.'

Fixing the mess is the exit strategy. And frankly I don't know why you care about the rest of the world 'hating us', they can go screw themselves. All those whiny UN countries complaining about the US presence in Iraq, but not wanting to do anything to secure the country ... the same people who voted for all the resolutions to censure, blockade, embargo, and otherwise isolate Iraq as a problem country ... the same people found guilty of various crimes of sexual misconduct on their 'peacekeeping missions' (a problem bigger than Abu Ghraib, yet you never hear about that one) ... the same people selling weapons to Iraq ... the same people taking kickbacks in the oil-for-food program ... it goes on and on.

So finally an American on american tv, pointing out what the rest of the world figured out over two years ago.

Thats the first time I have seen her smile.

she flat out refutes the possibility that there could be a democracy in iraq. that's just a cynical and narrow world-view.

and the bit about not raising her son to die in foreign land. maybe not. but did she think he would be defending an invading army on the shores of california?

We went to war because we were lied to about the threat Iraq posed. If we went to war to spread democracy then this is a "first" for America.

I would believe Cindy would have been proud to see her son serve in a war that truly necessary to protect America. Iraq was not the threat Bush Co. made it out to be. We were lied to by our President.

The world would not be so pissed at America, if you guys were not meddling everywhere, even in my remote part of the world, America's selfish actions quite literally screw us already Joe, thanks for your (lack of) concern (and you pretend to care for the Iraqis? Ha!).

To say nothing of Joe's abysmal ignorance on who exactly was behind Iraq's 13 years of drastic sanctions (fyi, US/UK) that cost the lives of more than half a million children under the age of 5 (screw them too, right Joe?), the fact that the UN inspectors had Iraq's weapons a thousand times more controlled and secured, than the US World Police has, and the fact that while sexual misconduct is indeed reprehensible, don't compare the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuses (of which you have only seen the mildest tip of the iceberg), with peace keepers trading goods for sex, in the later the sex workers at least got something in return, food is better than electrodes to the testes, which brings me to the latest point, please take home your thousands of US troops from the more than 700 military installations worlwide, maybe your angelic boys will then gang-rape 12 year old girls in Oklahoma, instead of Okinawa.

but but....she is anti-war....that must mean she's anti-america.

so war=american?

jesus christ on a stick am I tired of these conservative cock holes. thanks 4 sharing!

thx 4 sharing!

If we remain in Iraq...in 5 years time it will still be as it is now...perhaps even worse. It has never been worth the lives it has taken...for any cause that anyone wants to put on it. We need to tend to our own soil...our own people. The gulf coast needs what is spent in Iraq everyday many times over. The American people deserve not to be dragged kicking and screaming into a situation they do not endorse. 9/11 should not be the reason we went there...it just became a convenient excuse to use to fire people up. Some of us were smarter than that. I dislike that people don't understand the propaganda they are fed daily. Oh yes...they are good at it.

to the rest of the world US = war

Her son joined the military of his own free will. I am sorry she lost a son, but many people have of which the majority do not side with her or her opinions. She is a liberal who is using this to stand on her soap box (as is her right). Lastly I am reading this web site, and laughing. where do liberals get their facts? Jon Stewart I guess. When Clinton was in office he got a raw deal on a few things (I am not a Clinton fan at all), but nothing compared to what the libs do to Bush. Your arguments are half-truths or just plain lies. Everything Bush does you yell or march with your signs he is a liar or a murderer. Liberals you just need to stop being so damn bitter. BITTER BITTER LIBERALS
