You could hear it in the audience reactions - please don't burst our happy, 'everything is fine' bubble. To his credit, Jay let Bill go on, letting the side of him that realized that people need to hear how crazy things truly are win out over the voice telling him to save his own ass and the show.

What still bothers me about the Rove thing is that its "Let's send Rove to jail!" But it's Bush and Cheney who orchestrated the lies to send us to war. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Rove should all be in jail.

I love Bill Maher. He is the only reason I have HBO. His special will be on Saturday nite (7/30) and his show "Real Time...." is starting back up after the summer break on August 19th!!!

Hey Sparks, Bill will (I'll give you ten to one) be more than happy to state categorically that Bush is an idiot; imply had nothing to do with it. Not my call, his, and glad to hear you find "us" entertaining.

As to Bill, in future years we may see him as a recipient of the kind of award that lands one at the Kennedy Center Honors (ooh, almost typed "Boners", sorry!.) He's a current day Mencken (yeah, he had PC problems, too), and has Twain potential.

I NEVER watch Leno; what a great opportunity to catch it after the fact. It's one of the few moments on the "new" Tonight Show that Johnny might have been proud of.

Sparks - no one is calling ' KARL ROVE ' a character assassin. He is guilty of treason! He was given a clearly marked Top Secret report that contained the identity of an undercover CIA agent who happened to be the wife of a Weapons of Mass Distraction inspector Rove was mad at for attempting to report the truth, i.e. no WMDs in Iraq, and he 'outed' this man's wife i.e. leaked her identity to the press, endangering her mission and potentialy her life.

Leno's worry about "getting kick off the air" is in reference to Maher's getting kicked off "Politically Incorrect" on ABC for having the guts to (among other things) criticize the Neocon's, well...how to put it?...incompetentence...in executing the Iraqi War and, especially, its aftermath. Leno's reaction to Maher's sometimes offensive humor is hypocritical, as Jay's brand of humor is largely juvenile (sexual innuendo and double entendre), just touching upon purience. He seems to fear even one TV set in Peoria switching to Letterman. BTW, I think Maher referred to Rove as "doughy", not "doty"; as in, "Hey, Rove! The Pilsbury Boy called and wants his complexion back!" And Maher's brand of humor, satire, is often designed to be offensive so as to prick up the audience's ears and force them to react intelectually to their emotional shock.
