"Since 9/11, we've had people like Chuck Hagel and other politicians and we've had people in the press corps and commentators who've said we can't do Afghanistan."—Dick Cheney The republicans are eating their own. The only question is how will Chuck Hagel react to his trip to the woodshed.

CHENEY: "They said it would be....impossible for us to complete our mission in Afganistan. They were all wrong.
Oops! Looks like Cheney put his foot in his mouth.....again! Last time I checked we haven't captured or killed Bin Laden, so I'll take a wild leap of logic and conclude that - no we haven't "completed" our mission in Afganistan.
YOUR wrong, Cheney. Spin that!
Add to that the fact that things are worse in Afghanistan than they were under the Taliban. Given the rhetoric going into that war, you would've thought that was impossible, since the Taliban were absolute Evil Incarnate(tm).
I think the question should be - Is there ANYTHING they got right?
What exactly do these people have to do to our country before the people start protesting.
I say "Bring back the 70's!" - (you know, that's what really terrifies them cause this time the majority of the country would agree with the protesters.)
nemesis,
Dude, we've been protesting for 5 years! Can't you see us in front of the Fed buildings, on the corners during rush hour? Can't you read our banners that we hang over the crossbridges on our highways?? our letters to Congress and our Representatives, and to our local newpapers? Meet-ups, house parties, concerts, petitions, alternate news, bumperstickers? We're watching and challenging many of the the sneaky little amendments to sneaky Acts and Bills (NCLB, DOD's pact with 'BeNow' Marketing to boost military recruitment, more perks for boy scouts on military bases, etc.). Forget the 70's, they're nothing. Do something small to begin with; being here's a good start. We are the majority.
Sorry guys, but things are n o t worse in Afghanistan than they were under the Taliban; that would be quite difficult. But things certainly are not good at all. We've squandered every progress we made since 2001.
But there's another small detail: Chagel spoke of I r a k! That's that other country more to the west of Afghanistan. And "beep-yourself" said exactly nothing. Not that Wolfy would have insisted, though...
I think there is a logical fallacy in Cheney's argument. The NYT's was wrong about Afghanistan, therefore Chuck's wrong about Iraq?!? That's some weak shit.
Hmmmmm, who am I going to want listen to when it comes to handling a war?? A twice wounded, decorated Vietnam Vet like Chuck Hagel, or Dick "Five Deferments" Cheney? Hmmm. Just another example of the bizarro nature of this administration, which is the reason Iraq is the way it is. Military leaders and ex-vets are wrong, chickenhawks who never served are right.
Oops, not ex-vets, just meant Vets.
Cheney is not satisfied by feasting on the blood of our young soldiers so he must now devour the few members of his own party who haven't succumbed to the Bush kool-aid?
Look out Hagel, the Swift Boat Vets are coming for ya!
Last throes??? So, who in this administration are we to believe?
Ooops, this is what I was trying to link to.

RE: EX-VETS There are a lot of ex-Vets; that is, people who THOUGHT they were veterans but now find out that they are back in the service years or decades after they resigned!
There's an increasingly powerful organization called 'Veterans for Peace' (they were involved (in a good way) with the downingstreetmemo.org group. They, along with lots of other groups and individuals they are calling for impeachment. Seemed impeachment was quite a stretch not too long ago, but maybe it's more realistic now? Or am I hallucinating? (wouldn't be the first time, I could, and still do, have a vision of President Kucinich.)
Kucinich - Nice thought, but that will never happen.
frenchfries,
Name an improvement, then. Something that holds outside Kabul would be a plus.
Ricky, you beat me to it.
