Rove obvious did this purposefully, and the howls of outrage have achieved his goal. This is intended to keep the focus off Bush's failures in Iraq, Afganistan and elsewhere. Pelosi, in one of her comments, had the right take. That this demonstrates how desperate Bush and Rove are. The right response is not outrage, but scorn at how pathetic Bushco has become.

My roommate is Russian and has been in the U.S. for just over three years. He says that this is JUST like Lenin's Russia. Oddly enough, he is a pretty staunch supporter of Bush (which makes for great conversations on the porch, nightly) But this move is very dangerous for the U.S., he claims and I agree. He is a recent law school grad and he is still trying to understand HOW this is possible.

I think Dems are taking the wrong approach in asking for his apology or resignation. They sound like a bunch of babies. That is pretty damn telling.

what happens when the housing bubble pops? would commercial developers be able to seize people's homes and only pay the deflated price? when the housing bubble pops if you keep you property you'll be fine but if your forced to sell you'd be screwing yourself.

Well, oddly enough, he made the comment that the judges were "liberal hippies" He still holds much contempt for Kennedy on the Roper v. Simmons, which I thought was a fair decision.

Anyway, he made the statement about this being like Lenin's Russia because this decision gives more authority to municipalities to seize and demolish your property in the name of "tax revenue" (i.e. something good for the state) Very similar to what happened to people's property in Russia, all such moves were deemed as good/necesarry for the state. The Federal government should never have made this the law of the land - once again, state's rights are infringed upon.

As to those who talk about whining democrats and liberals... you are as disgusting as that little piece of rat filth Karl Rove.

It's sad to see Karl manipulating the Democrats and the public so effectively. They knew what the reaction would be, and everyone played their part by expressing outrage just perfectly. Now there's a new political firestorm to keep everyone from looking at what's really happening. Karl will never resign - he's playing his part.

I would have much preferred that the democrats seize this as an opportunity to draw some differences between how they would have handled the situation post 9/11 versus the republicans:

1) Use military force to elimiate the immediate terrorist threat - this was al quaeda, not iraq. We never finished the job in afghanistan - bin laden is still free.

2) Use the world-wide horror immediately following 9/11 to build diplomatic solutions to terrorism. The entire world wanted to help us, we didn't let them - instead, we did what Karl suggested - we rushed to war without planning and alienated most of the world.

3) Underscore how "planning for war" to use Karl's words, doesn't seem to be the administration's forte - why attack iraq when it clearly was not part of the war on terrorism? Also, what happened to planning in iraq?

4) Show how the administration's "shoot first think after" approach has only created more terrorists - I keep on reading about 1000's of terrorists being arrested in iraq - did all these people come from afghanistan? Did they become terrorists before we invaded Iraq or after?

etc...

Maybe understanding some of the root causes driving people to enlist with terrorist organizations would be a good thing... then we could fight the causes, and not the symptoms of terrorism and actually make some progress towards eliminating this threat.

So, once again the democrats blunder and play right into the administration's plans. Their strategists are weak at best. They should be using these opportunities to build a frame that differentiates them from the administration and defines them in the terms they want the public to see.

Even if no wrongdoing is discovered, I'm sure there are many skeletons of hypocrisy in the closet -- like, for example, a hysterically anti-choice congressman who paid for his daughter's abortion.
