Not Concerned, Why Not?

The republicans are right in one sense when they say George W. Bush is nothing if not consistent. He consistently makes a fool of himself. It was bad, but Bush managed to make it even worse when after John Kerry pointed out that 6 months after 9-ll Bush had said he wasn't concerned about Osama bin Laden. Bush donned a shit-faced grin and then mockingly said that's what you call an ex-ag-ger-a-tion.

updated video: I've updated the portion of the video from the March 2002 press conference adding the portion where he says "I don't know where he is. I just don't spend that much time on him"

Here is a link to the text of the entire news conference
update: I just couldn't resist the title of Tom Shales take on Debate 3 you'll enjoy his commentary.
Round 3: Bush Grins, Spins but Doesn't Win
An essentially dignified and thoughtful performance by Sen. John Kerry, contrasted with an oddly giggly turn by President Bush, combined to give the last debate of the presidential campaign to the challenger last night, but very narrowly.

Bush seems to have been taken apart and put back together again after each debate, reassembled according to estimates of how he'd done. Last night it looked as though his handlers had told him to smile, smile, smile, especially when Kerry was trying to make points, points, points. [snip]

"That's kind of one of those 'exaggerations,' " he said, emphasizing the word and grinning as if he'd just made the wittiest quip of the year. [snip]

Bush looked as smiley as Clarabell the Clown

Sure, grab it if you like. The more places it's posted the better.

Tom Shales is from my hometown paper, the Washington Post. He has written some of the classic TV commentaries ever. He doesn't like Bush much, but his was the best, most straight-up review of the debate, IMO. Thanks for the link, Norm.

Did Bush still think he was running against Gore? He was the exaggerator, according to the Bush people. That's the only way I can explain why he looked like everyone would get his inexplicable attempt at a joke. You can't blame him, he's getting so confused with changing the message from flip-flop to Massachusetts liberal that old scripts are popping into his head.

Huh, that didn't register with me. You're right of course that was the Bush meme in 2000. Kind of plays into the rumors floating around that Bush has had a stroke or some other neurological problem that accounts for his diminshed performance both in debates and press conferences. What a campaign.

I'll grab it as soon as I get home this morn. Indeed one of blinkys finer moments.

In illustrated dictionaries of the future that pic of Bush will be included to help explicate shit-eating grin

BUSH HAD A STROKE BEFORE THE LAST DEBATE! Everyone is talking about it...

Chimpy choked on a pretzel, but I never heard he had a stroke. Can you post a link to the story? I'd really enjoy reading about some Bushwad suffering.
