"In My Country There is Problem"
Was Sasha Baron Cohen exposing anti-semitism in Tucson or just taking advantage of some western hospitality. It runs against the grain to tell a guest to our country that their remarks are inappropriate, that we find them offensive. So somethimes we let pass outrageous statements that we should challenge. Is that what is happening in this video.

It may just be stereotype, but it seems that the country western crowd has more than their fair share of bigoted folk. There were certainly many in the crowd that quickly took to the "throw the jews down the well" refrain in Borat's song — but some at least initially showed some discomfort with his words. Unfortunately it only lasted for a minute or two when almost all of them joined in. Tucson should be ashamed of these few, whatever their motivation, and I'm sure they are more than a bit chagrined. There will be others more like our good "friend" James Broadwater a humorless republican, "true believer", and victim of Ali G, who is calling for the FCC to prevent citizens such as himself from making asses of themselves. A provocative piece and vintage Ali G

An interesting fact related to the post:
The refrain "throw the Jew down the well" reminded me of the term poisoning the well a reference to a type of logical fallacy. In that context Poisoning the Well:is attempt to preclude discussion by attacking the credibility of an opponent; "this expression goes back to the Middle Ages, when waves of anti-Jewish prejudice and persecution were common. If a plague struck a community, the people blamed it on the Jews, whom they accused of "poisoning the wells." I wonder if Sasha had that in mind when writing his song. I suspect he did.

And that problem is transport.
It take very very long,
Because Kazakhstan is big.
Throw transport down the well,
So my country can be free.
We must make travel easy,
Then we have big party!
In my country there is problem,
And that problem is the Jew.
They take everybody's money,
They never give it back.
Throw the Jew down the well,
So my country can be free.
You must grab him by his horns,
Then we have big party.
If you see the Jew coming,
You must be careful of his teeth.
You must grab him by his money,
And I tell you what to do...
Everybody!
Throw the Jew down the well
So my country can be free
You must grab him by his horns
Then we have big party
Throw the Jew down the well
So my country can be free
You must grab him by his horns
Then we have big party!

This *ish is classic. Oh man! If he really wanted to see them join in, he should have gone on with the second refrain of "hang the nigger from the tree". Ali G rules.
I laughed my khram off.
The observations on the aptly-constructed satire of Cohen's work are perspicuous in their acknowledgement of his obvious talent.
Anyone know or can send a copy of Sasha Baron Cohen signing In My Country There is Problem. I have been trying to get it to show a friend. If you can e-mail it to brian@balticyachts.com that would be awesome. It is freakin' hilarious obviously a spoof as Sasha is Jewish.
niiice, i liiiike.
if you're thinking you want to give the benefit of the doubt to some nice country folk, just imagine what they would do if the word "jew" was replaced with "bush."
I don't know what to say. The way those rednecks took to that song was absolutely appalling. It is kinda catchy though.
