Does You Think The Media Has Changed
Andy Rooney, or is it Runey, is interviewed by Ali G and gives him a lesson in grammar and then sends him on his way. I really enjoyed the first Sacha Baron Cohen bits I watched but I must say he needs to either broaden the characters he plays or get some new ones. His shtick is wearing thin. His meeting with Mr. Rooney is how I would expect most of his bits would end, but amazingly he continues to dupe most of those he interviews. How did Ali G get the interview with Rooney. The answer is here

Why post that crap? You just dropped a peg Norm. All these great posts and links and then you put up this stupid Ali G crap. It's not even funny, it isn't smart and the guy is too stupid to make it funny. Andy made him look like the tard he is. All he can do is try to pull some lame-ass racist bull at the end. Boring!
Norm, get back to posting some good shit not crap!!
Have you ever seen the show? I find people are initially turned off with Ali G, but after watching him for awhile, you get a sense of how he operates. I actually thought this episode was really strong.
Incidentally, Cohen was on Stern the other day and was "out of character". It was pretty interesting. He mentioned one bit that HBO didn't let him show involving a hunter advocating the "final solution" in Germany. Scary stuff. You can find said clip off "Borat's Television Programme" on Bittorrent.
Sorry Doug but that Ali G stuff is stupid.
Dropped a peg? Nah, not when you pointed me to Thighs Wide Shut! I loved the name so much I just had to go there and when I saw Lynndieez Nuts among all the other goodies I damn near fell outta my chair!
'sides, you gotta go off the rails from time to time or you'll pop.
Steve's right it is down a peg, but you're right you do have to go off the rails from time to time, and what better place to do it than Thighs Wide Shut.
That particular part isn't as insightful nor funny as his other ones. However, you cannot totally disregard Ali G show's social criticisms. I do think he is overrated cuz we all know racism exist. But whatever gets people talking about such issues.
I think Runey did quite well.
I think Ali G shows people for who they really are. People take life way to seriously. I think Ali G points that out. The fack that Andy Rooney got upset just points out to me that he is a tight wad that can't even see Ali G for who he is an actor.
Steve says "It's not even funny, it isn't smart and the guy is too stupid to make it funny." Here is another quote he ought to take in to account. He got a degree from Cambrige University! Here is the quote steve ligthen up and quite take shit so seriously.
"While playing the part of Ali G, an imbecilic and gonzo rapper who speaks in Caribbean-British slang, Mr. Baron Cohen in the first few episodes interviews Pat Buchanan, Sam Donaldson and Gore Vidal. For all the publicity that Ali G received in his initial HBO season, in which he put on the likes of Newt Gingrich, the former astronaut Edwin E. Aldrin Jr. and the former director of central intelligence R. James Woolsey, none of this season's august figures managed to see their disguised interviewer for who he is: a wickedly smart, left-wing comedian and practicing Jew with a degree from Cambridge."

George W. Bush has a degree from a reputable university. That doesn't mean dick!
The shit ain't funny. If it's funny, I'll laugh. That shit ain't funny. If there is some funny Ali G shit, post it.
The guy misrepresents himself, asks innane questions and can't follow-up with anything clever and Andy Rooney gets upset. Gee I wonder why?!
Ambush the guy, I don't care. Just make the shit funny or smart or both! Even Rooney would laugh if was halfway intelligent comedy.
Norm is back up with the last few great posts so the Ali G crap is forgiven. Keep up the good stuff Norm and leave the crap for people to post links on the comments page!
Kudos to Norm for posting these clips! Ali G's satirical comedy is both on the edge and damn funny - but you NEED to get into it and you're not gonna get that just from watching a few clips. He's been big in the UK for a few years now and I'm really pleased that he's making an impression in the US, whether it's good or bad.
Sit down and watch a few of his shows and check out some of the great characters, because arguably Ali G is not the best of them.
Actually the guy who plays Ali G is pretty smart...graduated from Oxford.
