War Without End
One year ago today I posted links to half a dozen anti-war songs. Since then I've added approximately 50 songs as well as lyrics and short clips. The page has received over 15,000 visits, an average of some 50 visits each day, and the visits show no sign of decreasing. The situation in Iraq is still volatile. Over 550 Americans have given their lives, not for the weapons of mass destruction we were promised were there, but for ever changing goals. But that was only the beginning, thousands more have been wounded. Many have lost limbs an everyday reminder of the war. And that is just the Americans. Estimates place the Iraqi dead at over 10,000 with tens of thousands more wounded. The infrastructure was devastated and only now are we beginning see signs of progress, but even that is in jeopardy. Civil war is a real possibility, and even though most of the population is happy that Saddam is gone they are not happy we are there. Billions of dollars have been spent and billions more are in the pipeline while our soldiers continue to die and Americans at home continue to live in fear. Not of weapons of mass destruction, but of no health care, no jobs, diminished civil rights, and a president they have learned they can't trust. Our government is now more interested in corporate values than family values. Music can be a powerful reminder of why resistance is still important. If you haven't visited the page lately check it out, listen to a clip or two. Download your favorites and share them with your friends. We deserve more than a war without end.
