Morality and the Proper Tool
The War Party seems to believe that deterrence is no longer an effective option. Many of their number believe that containment is no longer possible. The solution they offer is to bomb the hell out of one and all, well no that's not correct is it? These moral giants think we should bomb the hell out of those we can without too much risk to ourselves. Excuse me, but does that mean we are subject to containment and deterrence, in this case the idea that the costs are too great to America deter us. Somehow these dumb shits think we are unique that other leaders, even such assholes as Saddam, are somehow so mentally challenged that they don't see that. These paragons of virtue have only one tool in their bag, a hammer, they have difficulty distinguishing between those that have country's they want to keep and those such as bin Laden that don't. This issue is being discussed in our homes at work and of course on the Internet. Joseph Duemer is currently engaged in this conversation with one of his readers. He does an excellent job of defining the issues and making the argument that a hammer is not always the best tool. We all knew that of course, our fathers told us when we were young to always use the proper tool. Ignoring that advice usually made a mess of things. It seems some have forgotten that lesson.
