Margaret Thatcher Decapitated
Just before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, Margaret Thatcher, the first women elected Prime Minister and known for having a good head on her shoulders, became the first British Subject executed under a rare British statute. The statute passed, ironically, during her final days in office was an attempt to prevent politicians from illegally profiting from their government service. At the time Margaret thought the Prime Minister was elected for life. The French donated the Guillotine a Louis the 15th model especially for the occasion. The Blade fell 7.5 feet failing to do the job on the first attempt. It seems Margaret really was an iron lady. The second attempt however severed her head from her stately body in 1/30 of a second. World reaction to the execution has been mixed. George Bush when asked for a comment said, "Simply barbaric how a civilized society could countenance the death penalty is beyond me. Europeans go figure." Venezuela's who's soccer team lost to the British in an early round of this years World Cup was thrilled. Ronald Reagan a close friend and former president of the United States, in a moment of clarity said, "I can't say that I'm surprised. Margaret was always sticking her neck out." The British Stock Market fell on word of the execution. Broker's advised their clients to sell, cutting their losses. Uncertainty was the byword. Tony Blair never one to cut and run did his best to reassure a shocked nation they would survive.
Update: Some in the press are reporting an alternate version of events.
