Court rejects Pledge of Allegiance
As an atheist I've always felt uncomfortable reciting the pledge. I remember when it changed in 1954 I was a fourth grader at Sherman Elementry School. For years when I have recited the pledge I've simply left out the "under god", stating one nation indivisible exactly the same way millions of Americans had done for decades before 1954. So I find todays news encouraging, now if the Supreme Court will uphold the inevitable appeal.
Court rejects Pledge of Allegiance
‘One nation under God’ violates Constitution, judges say
‘A profession that we are a nation “under God” is identical ... to a profession that we are a nation “under Jesus,” a nation “under Vishnu,” a nation “under Zeus,” or a nation “under no god.”’
— 9TH U.S. CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS RULING
According to this
article it would mean that "school children at least in the nine Western states covered by the court-- cannot recite the pledge"
